Tyres here or US?

Gents,

With the Ozzie Dollar being so strong - I thought that I might do some purchasing overseas...

What are your thoughts on buying tyres from "Tirerack"?

I think I have a quote for all 4 tyres bought from Sydney to be: $1950 delivered (but not fitted).

Tirerack Conti Contact Sport 3s are: $1250 (not shipped) Aussie...

Don't forget to add 10% GST and 10% import duty plus shipping so you might not be that much better off. Then you'll pay for fitting. Have you rung around locally?

Zenderm3, ask for tirerack to split shipping for you into two shipments.

I done this recently and to avoid customs, I had 2 tyres invoiced under a different name (family member but different surname) and sent to my home address and 2 tyres invoiced to my name and sent to my business address.

Shipping only worked out to roughly $100AUD more this way...

I dealt with Luke Pavlick, he was very helpful with splitting the shipping up.

I ended up getting the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08's. The seem great from the reviews/tests.

I paid AUD$1,150 for 2 rear PS2s back when the dollar was substantially weaker. Sent FedEx by Arnold at Tirerack. Saving of $1,000. Took less than a week.

Split shipping sounds like a good idea for a full set.

Australia can be a frustrating place sometimes.....

Are the Continental SC3 now OEM on the M3? I have seen Conti's on an M3 in the showroom.

Yes, it's an OEM tire. In fact Tire Rack mention that it's an OEM option next to the Michelins.

Dude, Tirerack is the way to go. I've bought a few track tires off them when i've found them on special. Great people to deal with and super fast. I would be giving the PS2's a try. I was in an M3 the other day that had them and they were way quieter on the road than the Conti's....

Gents... quick question... Tirerack suggest getting a "sensor" do we need to get this for our Tyre pressure?

Any help would be appreciated... I'm sticking to my stock wheels and the dealership is doing the fitting for $15 a wheel.

What sensor are they talking about? a tyre pressure gauge?

I was told that the flat tyre monitor runs off the abs sensors so there is no issues with changing tyres (i went from runflats to non-runflats) and have had them on for 45000+km's with no issues.

The M3 obviously comes with non-runflats (from the factory) so i don't see any issues with just a normal tyre change

Because Americans are not intelligent enough to check their tyre pressures the US Government has mandated Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems on all new cars over there, so US tyre dealers will usually think you need the TPMS sensors.

E92325i is partially correct, we have Flat Tyre Monitors on our M3s which detect a flat tyre due to reduced tyre diameter and increased wheel speed using the ABS. Of course we don't have runflats, we have a pump and tyre goo...which I had to use once...don't drive on rough dirt roads...

Sorry, missed this post, I have sold the M3, gone to the dark side, 2011 GT-R being built as I speak!

Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase some tyres off tirerack. Does anybody have the email addresses to "more helpful" tirerack sales rep.

The person whom I'm speaking to at the moment is really making life difficult. Much appreciated. Thanks.
