Which New England state has the best drivers?

I thought this might be an interesting topic. Shoot.

I'll start. I live in Mass. Mass drivers suck. So I guess I put us last. Me excluded of course.

MA drivers drive me crazy every time I drive so you guys have it right for the worst drivers. I'd say the best drivers in NE are probably those that live way up in the boondocks in VT where the traffic volume is similar to what it used to be around here in the early 50s - hardly any. I used to love to ride my Harley up there - felt like the old days again when everyone was really laid back and the roads just flowed along nicely all the time. Man, I miss those days. I wish I could snap my fingers and have it be say, 1958 again. Computers are really doing a number on our society these days and life was so much less hectic without them... (sorry for the digression)

I have found that VT drivers in general have a tough time in and around Boston. I won't say clueless, but they certainly do seem to get in the way a lot. I vote for New Hampshire as having the best overall drivers. I see more NH plates using turn signals and getting out of the the left lane when faster traffic is approaching. Those are two of my biggest pet peeves.

+1 on turn signals and left lane. I hate those people who come into my lane unexpectedly without turn signals.

Why are the cars so dirty in VT? I mean really. I lived on a long dirt road with my last BMW, so I get the dust and some dirt on the wheel wells, but I don't understand why an average mini-van or sedan has straight up mud from the windows down. Yes, MA drivers will no-look lane swap. Yes, MA drivers will flip you off. Yes, MA drivers are dbags. However, at no point do I get the feeling that an MA driver would tie me in a burlap bag, take me through the mud bog swamp to the mountain hideout, and cut me to pieces as uncle Leeroy collects maple sap buckets from the back yard. I SEE YOU watching me, with your white-on-mud 1984 Volvo and I don't like it, sir/ma'am.

The only, only time I put the spare kit in the trunk is when I go to VT, because I can't afford to be involved in some horror-movie scenario as I wait for roadside assistance. Nonetheless, Burlington is absolutely lovely this time of year (sorry for the digression).

NH, no question about it in my opinion.

MA drivers are just terrible, I think we can all agree on that. Forget RI and CT, as perfectly described in another thread - "aggressiveness of MA drivers combined with hesitation of CT drivers".

Maine and VT are in a class of their own when it comes to driving like idiots. Whether it's putt-putting down the left lane in the filthy-ass 10 year old Subaru, or going into white-knuckle mode at the first sign of a rain drop, towing 15,000lb campers with a Blazer, tapping brakes unnecessarily on the highway - they do it all. They always seem to end up in my way and/or disturbing the flow of traffic, and that drives me insane.

I like to think of myself as a good driver, but guess I'm still a Masshole at heart.

IMO MA has some of the worse...like hogging the fast lane and going speed limit. WTF, pull over to the right!

I'd also say NH. agree they seem to know which lane to be in.

"Everyone thinks they're entitled"...i say this all the time while driving. the left lane slow-face hogs are no different from the idiots who double park on Mass Ave with an open space on the curb 10 feet away.

I wish the cops would feel empowered to actually TICKET those double-parkers and those who block-the-box and crosswalks.

There is a pretty clear difference when you drive into MA from NH, MI, or VT......MA drivers are the stupidest drivers out of those 4 states. (at least on highways)

I drive 30k+ miles every year and have spent a good portion of my driving in MA, ME, NH, and RI. Regardless of where I am driving, I usually always see a RI license plate that is pissing me off. I swear that in RI they don't have any driving classes before the state issues licenses.....my god people, what is wrong with you RI people? I can be on a major highway (95N) and yoooz RI people don't know to move over. After I pass you on the right (illegal) and look at you, you act like I have a problem? Or you finally move over just as I am about to go around you, then flip me off? Yoooz better be gettin off at the Pawtucket exit!
