Anyone considering the RS4?

I stopped by the Audi dealership today and I have to say that the RS4 is a beautiful car. Are any of you considering scooping one of these up before the E92 M comes out? If so, what are you debating?

Here's what comes to my mind:

RS4 Pros:
- AWD
- Can get one fairly quickly
- Pretty unique and rare to see one on the road whereas in 4 years there will be tons of M3s
- Holds value fairly well because they limit production on them

RS4 Negs:
- Only available for one year? (is this true?)
- Orders are ending in a month or so (is this true?)
- Snout is ugly
- Resembles a VW on the inside
- Not many sold so there isn't much of an online presence (tuners, parts, forums, etc.)

M3 Pros:
- Probably will look great
- It's an M3
- Beasty

M3 Negs:
- Wait time
- 1st year in production
- Could be more expensive than an RS4

Anyone else going through the same turmoil or similar?

Yeah I have considered it an option. I expect both cars to perform similar. The RS4 is such a strong performer that its showing up in comparisons with the M5.

However, I would rather own an M3. For me it comes down to price. If the M3 is cheaper than the RS4, which it should be, then I will probably go with the M3. If the price is a lot higher than I am expecting then the RS4 becomes an alternate....

The RS4 is a fast, luxurious, safe sports sedan. The AWD really puts the power down well in all conditions. However, for more talented drivers who know how to drive a rear-wheel drive car well, the M3 will be far more satisfying. It will let you have oversteer when you want it (for fun or for track racing) and will offer better steering feel because no power is going through the front wheels. It will also be lighter (by at least 300 lbs) and thus more "tossable."

If you live in a snowy/icy/excessively rainy area and want to drive the car year round the RS4 is the way to go. For anyone else the M3 will be faster, a better driver's car, and probably a bit less expensive.

Yeah the RS4 has been highly regarded for its Quattro working well on twisty roads in the rain and grip in snow.

...but the M-division never believes in this 4x4 thinggie

The new M may be over that as well. The RS4 is 66k base ... I wouldn't be surprised if the M is at least this much.

I was going to get an RS4 (1 1/2 years ago) until I saw the price. I pot'd for an '06 S4 instead, which has been great.

I wanted the B7 S4 over the E46 M3 since the E46 style is looking a little dated (still gorgeous though) and when the lease is up on the S4 it'll be about a year into the E90 M3 life span so I can get one with the first run kinks already worked out.

IMO the RS4 is over pirced by about $5-8K.

You can't find an RS4 for a nickle less than $72K. Plus the RS4 is a VERY VERY limited produced car, unlike the M3. Yes the M3 is not as massed produced as a 335i, but far more will eb produced than the RS4.

I personally think the M3 will MSRP base at around $55K and probably come out to around $60-66K well equppied.

I can order you a base RS4 tommorow. It is limited, but not THAT limited. Details here: http://www.audiclubna.org/content/view/98/115/

72k out the door or before tax/lic fees? I don't see why not because my local dealership is offering them for msrp. Of course there's this stupid gas guzzler fee and what not for 2k.

Smoltz sounds like he has a connection through ACNA.

I personally have never seen one either online or in a showroom w/o the only 2 options, Premium Pkg and side air bags. With those options equipped I think it comes to $72K.

Regardless, as a B7 S4 owner, and 3 time Audi owner, I will take the E92 M3 (w/o seeing or driving it) before the RS4.

Hmm, the E46 is a 6 year old design, and 8.5 year old technology. Give it a break.

Great car, great numbers, etc.
Though I am a coupe guy
Plus, I lost my chance to purchase E46 M3 so E92 M3 better be worth waiting a year +.

but RS4 hands down over the M3

M3 VS RS4 is a mismatch

3 series vs A4
M3 VS S4
M5 VS RS4

They should consider adopting DSG into RS/S models.
Isn't DSG in R8?
