6VC Combox Question

I recognize that I may one of the earliest with the new 6VC combox, but any help would be appreciated.

The iPod functionality all works fine. The irritant is that when I first connected my BlackBerry running OS6 to the car, my text messages showed up on the screen (OS6 has the Message Access Protocol). It read my mail (although the computer pronounces some things interestingly). The next time I used the car, the messages didn't load, and I have not been able to get them to load.

Of course, there is no documentation on this functionality in the manual because it is new. The dealer was even less useful because they had yet to see anyone with the 6VC and OS6 working together.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate some tips. I was going to blow away my phone profile and start all over again. I know it is not the phone because it worked the first time.

Other than that, my 535 is a lot of fun.

(BTW, I totally agree with the previous posts about the reflection on the windshield -- wow. I am hoping that when dash loses its new car shine, it will be reduced).

Are you just using the I-Pod connector? Getting Album Cover artwork? voice to command, lets say a song Title? And do you still have a power port...aka cigarette light syle in the armrest?

Thanks

I solved my text-to-voice issue. After the phone is setup, select that phone then go one menu deeper and click on the office function.

Yes, just using the iPod cable. Yes to cover art. Haven't got that far on voice commands but will this weekend. They took out the power (cig lighter) in the arm rest.

When I remove the iphone and connect it with the cable its all works fine.

Anyone else with this problem?

There are a number of iPhone snap in adapters, do you have the correct one for your model of iPhone?

I have an early 550i without the new combox, car plays music through the snap in adapter just fine.

I have a question for people with the new set up. Can you play video on your car's screen from the iPhone? Like a movie or music video. Or does it only play audio with the album art?

Which one is the correct one for the iPhone 3G? The one that says 3G should be the one, right?

http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...productId=2455

but . . . would I have the problems this poster is having with his 3GS if I get that adapter?

My car has a last week in October build date.

I doubt this will be possible with current software due to the need to decode the mp4 / h264 video,, though it might be possible when the software includes the iPod out feature..next year. Anyone with the 6VC confirm this?

I just drove my 535i in Europe before they send it to the states. It can play music through bluetooth on my phone (HTC EVO) and had an "office" option on the navigation. Does this mean I have a 6VC (ComBox)? I didnt see album art but I was using an ipod that is a few years old. I also used the y connection cable which it had input for. Thanks!

Hard to say. It appears that you do have the 6VC. When I tried the Y adapter at the dealership, my new iPod functions did not work. When I used the white iPod cord (note to others...you can buy short 2-3 inch iPod cables which combined with the new Nano, remove clutter from the arm rest storage), everything worked. The Bluetooth music streaming is a 6VC function so I suspect you are good to go.

I was told by the dealer that you can, but there is a lot that can be done with the European cars that can't be done in North America due to regulations. I will download a music video onto my iPod and will try it out tomorrow.

I could be completely wrong but isn't that snap-in adapter strictly for tying your iPhone's telephone functions to the car (and to allow it to charge and to benefit from better reception through the car's antenna) rather than for it to allow you to connect the audio functions to the car?

Yes, voice comments work. But it's not super elegant though. You still have to go through the various menu steps, e.g. "usb", "artists", "red hot chilli peppers", "all tracks" or "song x". Still, it's handy if you want to keep your eyes totally focused on the road. I still find it faster to change the functions on iDrive at a red light.

Hmmmm... I have a power port in my arm rest storage area, right next to the ipod/USB connector.

Week 35 production, a couple of spots behind SEAG.*

Don't use the y cable. Simply plug in your iPod with the white cable that comes with the iPod. Mine does not work with the Y cable but does with the white USB cable.

Thanks for the info. I must have it cause I could definitely stream music by bluetooth. I will experiment with the other cable when I get the car in a number of weeks.

I tired the same with an iPhone 4 but without success. You can't start them playing from the iphone cos it locks out saying connected to an external device. So the only option appears via idrive but only audio tracks are listed?

I managed to get audio only using BT Audio when playing a a video, but no picture (for obvious reasons)
