Audi RS5 - future M3 Coupe competitor

Now that I've gotten somewhat used to the new Audi schnoz, not a bad looking car. The A5 will have an S version and a 420 hp RS5. The transaxle has been redesigned to allow the engine to move back, improving weight distribution over the RS4.

Not bad I gotta admit. But is this car supposed to compete with the new M3 or the M6? Bring it on Audi!

It's an M3 competitor--RS6 is an M5 competitor. No large coupe from Audi yet. Of course, these CGIs are just somebody's guess.

I'm confused why they compare an e46 m3 to a ,I'm guessing, b5 rs4?

rwd vs. awd
v8 vs. i6
4.2l vs. 3.2l
420hp vs. 333hp

Where is the area for comparison? rs4's blow past me.

I like the coupe, but I'm not sure if the front end is it's fuerte. I don't want to sound like a hater, I had an A6 in the past and i hated parting ways with it for my e46.

Looks sweet. But I'm thinking the RS5 will be more $$ than the RS4, which means it will be much more $$ than the M3. More $$ and not more car.

You may be right--rumor from some quarters is that it will be between E92 M3 and the M6, or close to the CLK AMG.

This is an E90 forum. So we're not talking about comparing it with the E46, but rather the upcoming E90 M3.

-Adam

edit: The current RS4 model is the B7.

It seems like a sad attempt to fix the pathetic RS4 when the E92 M3 really comes out. But it still can't touch the M3 in terms of technology. 9000 rpm 4L V8. SMG IV. Beat it, SkodAudi.

Best regards,

Jussi

Is the A5/RS5 really targeted at the current 3-series? I've seen spy photos of this car and it really seems rather large, almost A6 sized car. Not bad looking car at all but don't know how nimble it will be. Looks to me like it's more a 5-series competitor just based on size.

Audi simply doesn't have anything in their arsenal to compete with the 3-series or M3. They try to fight the cars by making new models, and targeting the 3, but BMW always trounces them, IN EVERY WAY. They should target the japanese companies now so they could feel a little better about themselves.

Side Note On Audi "Innovation" or that they pump out serious performance : The R8 Is a beautiful car, but It supposed to be a tribute to the Le Mans rapist R8. I think they did a terrible, cheap-o job on it. Its a gallardo with an audi suit on. They didn't do any research or anything for it, simply pathetic.

Well said. As far as the RS5, I understand it is supposed to be a M6 clone - same size/market segment, though less performance, as usual for SkodAudi clones.

Best regards,

It will, based on the numbers - and they don't even compete, it's much larger and clearly a 2+2 seater like the M6.

Best regards,

Jussi
