Guesses on Nurburgring Nordschleife times?
Well I know it is a lot of speculation since we don't have precise weight or power figures yet, but have a look at the following list http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?vie...ID=0&tID=10073 and post your best guess for the 'ring lap time of the new E90 M3. I am as excited or more excited to think about this rather than 0-60 times. As you probably know this course is brutal and really tests handling as well as power.
My guess is 7:5X and I won't choose X quite yet. Either way under that magical 8 minute mark! |

Awesone thread mate - could look through the lap times on that chart all day!!
I'd say that the E92 M3 time is going to be better than the E46 M3 CSL, so definitely in the lower 7.50s. |

E46 M3 CSL
I thought it may get to that time also but the power to weight is probably going to be slightly better in the CSL and the weight is likely substantially lower than expected weight of E90. All depends on the new weight budget and how much composites make it into the car. Did the CSL have any suspension mods or just a bit more power and less weight?

I think that BMW is moving the E90 M3 up into a different league from the E46 M3. Have a look at the price of a decent specced 335i and I think it is now within E46 M3 territory.
I think BMW will keep the weight down with carbonfibre roof and extensive use of aluminium / composite panels. That combined with the lightweight v8 and we should see a decent increase in the power to weight ratio over the E46 CSL. Unfortunately I also believe that the car will be priced nearer to the Audi RS4 to account for the investment in weight saving and increased spec' / performance to the 335i. |

don't know the official time. but see a 8:09 time for rs4.
the m3 has to be less than that, but how the heck did the m6 not do better than the rs4???? and i don't see the m3 being faster than the m6 |

Have a word with yourself Bambam!! THe M6 is a fast car, but it is certainly no track tool. The M6 is in the GT class and, much as it is effective around the ring, the E90 M3 should have similar acceleration figures up to 100mph but will handle far better.

Just saw great times for the 335i on both the "ring" and Hockenheim. BMW has set the standard high for itself already with the 335i so I expect jaw dropping #'s for the new M3
335i #'s Nurburgring - 8:26 minutes (only 4 seconds slower than e46 M3) Hockenheim - 1.17.8 minutes (only .2 seconds slower than e46 M3) Grabbed the #'s from - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34644 |

M6 is 8 minutes exactly on the Nordschleife. Not a track tool, like somebody already said. New M3 will definitely be faster. I place my bet on 7:4x given the current knowledge I have on it's tech specs.

Wow, we will have to wait and see this. Thats a very wishful time Jussi, and believe me I hope its true. Im guessing low 7:50s. Just to be bad ass in case it happens, I will say 7:52. We will refer to this thread once the time is in.

I'm calculating it based on M3 GTR race-model 7 minutes 1 second, adding weight, decreasing horsepowers and torque... and remembering the BMW statement that the new M3 will be the premium M3 model which will coach the whole M lineup into a new level of performance and even higher standards on all aspects.

http://forums.dieselstation.com/inde...d=324610&st=0& Looks like I remembered wrong, the M3 GTR was 7 minutes 6 seconds, not 7:01. Pretty fuc*ing amazing still for a track where 8 minutes is considered a really amazing result. Remember many of the top times of certain vehicles are by amazingly tuned versions, look for the real times further down the list (of the standard versions) Best regards, Jussi - gone now for today. |

Christ! The CSL is only 7 Seconds slower than the 06 Vette Z06!!!
The CSL is only 76 lbs lighter than the Z06 yet the power figures rate like so: Z06 Horsepower 505 @ 6300 RPM Torque (lb-ft) 470 @ 4800 RPM CSL Horsepower 360 @ 7900 RPM Torque (lb-ft) 274 @ 4900 RPM If your math isn't to good, thats +145hp & 196 lb-ft of torque to the Z06! Which I think definitely makes up for the 76 lbs. Speaks wonders of handling of the M3 vs. Z06. |

About 16 seconds of the CSLs improvement over the base car is simply the tires. The Pilot Sport Cup tires are a track tire, not a street tire like the normal M3s have.
No way the car does a 7:4x. High 7:5x is a much more reasonable guess. Put the CSL tires on the Z06 and that 7 second gap would become 21 seconds. The PSCs are great tires. I used to use them as my track wheels on my car. Catch is they don't last long. 3-4k street miles or about 600miles on the track. |

Enigma is pretty right here. Those tires are insane. Just watch out if starts to rain, cause you're going to slide. They're basically just freaking barely street legal slicks. But you can't ignore the power difference either - that really speaks for M3 CSLs handling. Vette has never been known for excellent handling... 'wrap your ass in fiberglass', as they used to say.

The older model Corvettes were definitely pigs, but when the C5 debuted in 1997, it was a pretty formidable car and it's ring times indicate as much... C5 Times: 7:56 --- Chevrolet Corvette CE Z06 8:18 --- Chevrolet Corvette Z05 Commemorative Edition, 344 PS (09/2003) As for my personal guess. I'm going to say between 7:55 and 8:05 on street tires. That puts in company with the 996 GT3, 997 Carrera S, 996 Turbo, 360, Corvette C6 and C5 Z06. -Adam |

The C5 Z06 has been dominating SCCA Solo2 for years now in the stock class. Solo2 is mostly a handling competition where power isn't that important. This year was the first year the C5 Z06 lost and that was to the Lotus Elise. Say what you want about the build quality, interrior quality, or image of the car but the performance is there. The E46 M3 struggled to do much better than the E46 330zhp since their power edge doesn't help them much and they really don't have a handling edge. |
