What do I need to do my own brakes ('06 330i)?

Sorry for the newb question, but I've never done brakes before. One of my neighbors will help me, but he's never done a bimmer.

I'm assuming I'll need both rotors and pads. What should I get? And where should I get them?

Any gotchas we should be aware of? Thanks for the help.

Check out one of the DIY guides...they're all pretty much the same. Some list all the tools needed as well. I'm looking to change my brakes for the first time too. I bled my brakes back in June and it was a piece of cake.

If you're flushing your brake fluid, get some ATE Blue fluid so you can tell when you have completely flushed your lines to each corner. Since your neighbor is helping, you can use the old school method, you pump the brakes while your neighbor drains at each corner. Make sure to keep an eye on the reservoir. It must NEVER go empty or you'll get air in your lines.

It's not really any different than doing brakes on any other car. You'll need metric allen wrenches or hex drivers to loosen the caliper pins, and rotor screws, but everything else just like other cars I've done brakes on.

Don't forget the brake sensor. Really easy to replace. Use some anti squeek on the pads. The DIYs all have good tips. Search "epic fail" in the maintenance subforum. That's how not to change brakes.
