E92 coupe pricing released, any new guesses for M3 pricing?

Now that e92 coupe prices are out, anybody care to revise their guess as to new M3 pricing??

Nope. I'm going to be right on the money with my guess of around 55k base.... Some interesting info. 2001 330ci base 34,990. 2001 M3 45,400 (these are both of MSN). Doing the math yields roughly a 30% premium for a base M3 over a base 330Ci. Now let's extrapolate that to the current 335ci (base price 40600) only yields 52780. So even if we assume another 5% the base is only 55,500. Right in line with my initial estimates.

Base on new M3 will not be 55k........ You cannot compare old technology and old prices with current situation. New Bimmers, especially M's are PACKED with more technology than the Space Shuttle and when you consider that the dollar is much weaker now than it was when the old models came out BMW AG cannot afford to sell a new M3 with a base of 55k...

Case in point- the New M5. Base price is 81.2k, a base 550i is 58.5k. That's
a whopping 22.7k difference in price. Base price of new 335i is 40k- base price of new M3 will be at least 59-60k or approx. 20k diff...

Sorry, the truth hurts...........

My advice is if you want an M3 for 55k than go to your local dealer right now
and get an E46 M3- I heard you can get a GREAT deal........

I fully agree with the previous poster, but I think maybe a little higher for the base model. You might see an initial low $60's base model but it will not be a buyable car (everyone will have at least some options, plus dont forget the likely gas guzzler tax in the $2k range).

Realistically, a middle of the road configuration - low $70's.
Fully loaded may reach $80k.

The current e46 M3 can reach $72k already.

And look at the competition, the RS4 is into the mid $70's and people are lining up to buy it.

I have presented numerical evidence on this thread and others, in terms of historical price increases (in percentage) and model comparisons. You have grabbed arbitrary absolute difference in prices and applied them indescrimintely.

Yeah the truth is going to hurt... when you realize that you're way off base.

We're not talking about max price here or averag eprice. We're talking about base price. People are not lingin up to buy RS4s. I can get you one tommorow at MSRP if you like. Also, BMW M cars have ALWYAYS been priced lower than RS series Audis.

2003 M5 MSRP - 70,400
2003 540i 6SPD MSRP - 55,800

% Premium for E39 M5 vs E39 540i = 26%

2006 M5 MSRP - 81,200
2006 550I 6SPD MSRP - 58,500

% Premium for E60 M5 vs E60 550i = 38%

% Increase In Premium from 2003 to 2006, 31%

Now Let's apply that to the E90...
2007 335i MSRP - 40,600
On the E46 there was a 30% Premium for the M3, now let's compound that with a 31% Increase (based on E39 vs E60). This yields a total cost increase against the E90 of 39.3%. Apply that to the E90 base price yields 56,500.

56.5k is still higher than 55....


I agree that the 39.3% seems logical but the prob is that BMW NA is raising base prices every year at higher percentages than ever before to offest the weak dollar and exchange rate and keep profits reasonable. The 07' 550i jumped quite a bit over the 06' for example.

I said 58-60k, your 56.5 is only 1.5k off- not a huge diff IMO........

IMO, when it's all said and done, you will be able to pick up a new M3, reasonably equipped, for between $65-70K (MSRP), including gas guzzler and sales tax.

Adam you make a very good case. I just wouldn't be surprised if it's a little higher than that. I think the market will allow it, and as long as it's the better buy than the RS4 and gives serious competition for the 997S then anything low $70's won't get much of a stir. Just my hunch, yes, and I certainly hope you're right on the money!
