e92 Shifter Recall?

Anyone know anything about the 335 shifter recall that's going on now? My friend just had his car in today for them to replace something due to this recall, but he didn't know what it was for.

I just got called today by my dealer for the same thing. Mines a manual. When I asked why, they just said it was a maintenance update.

Maybe some have come loose? but I cant see anything wrong with mine.

This could have something to do with the knob popping off, but I've only heard that on sport knobs (OEM/aftermarket).

I was wondering if anyone else would have this issue. I have 5K miles on my 335i and my shifter looks like it's 10 years old.

To make it up to the buyers, BMW should replace those cheap worn out looking knobs with a M3 knob and put a light in while they are there

I guess then my replacing mine with old e46 Msport (all leather all the way) will take care of the problem

changed mine so no worries for me......I had issues with the aluminum trim being slippery (sweaty palms). So I now have the M sport Knob. very nice and grippy.

I have 4K on mine and couldn't figure out why I was getting scratches on my shifter. Glad to know they will replace it.
Don't suppose I get a choice of replacements?

Since they are replacing these shift knobs, would it be safe to say that they are installing the new knob on models currently in production or future production models?

Had the car in for the Oil sensor malfunction issue and mentioned this shift nob replacement item to the service advisor. He looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about. I didn't find a TSB # or post at Alldata for this shifter "Recall". Anybody have more specific info?

Thanks!

My shifter is totally trashed... all the chrome came off and now it is just rough brass looking metal.

Is there actually a recall on this, or was it just a 'recall'?

Anyone have any pics of a 'trashed' shift knob? They replaced mine a few days ago but it looked perfect after 8k miles...maybe has something to do with PH level differences in people's skin? Anyway I was just hoping someone had a pic.

I still find it funny how they can recall the shift knob for a minor very rare problem, where as there is no fuel pump recall for such a notorious problem.
