Dinan S3 335i; good deal - no way to warranty?

Very noob question, but a search revealed unpromising information so I am hoping a more knowledgeable member can provide some hope.

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2007 335i sedan with the Dinan stage 3 upgrades installed. The car has 53k miles. It appears BMW will not touch it (according to threads revealed in my search here) due to both mileage and the Dinan upgrades. Is there truly no way to secure an extended warranty from a reputable provider?

I am currently in an AMG and am not comfortable owning such expensive cars to repair without a warranty. Is there any hope?

Thanks!

I'm sure you could get a warranty from a third party that is probably on par or even more comprehensive than BMW's CPO warranty.

Honestly, I think BMW's is pretty overpriced.

BMW won't touch it and thanks to Dinan, they register the serial number with BMW so they know for sure it has been modified. You should be able to get a 3rd party warranty though without issue.

BMW wont give you a extended warranty? My SA told me that if i want to mod my car to do it with Dinan because Dinan and BMW work together and they would be able to give me a extended warranty. If BMW wont give you a extended warranty try talking to Dinan and see if they will sell you a warranty.

I've heard there are options with going back to stock flash, them check out your car, and maybe CPO after that.

Honestly, just my opinion, if you're going to buy a modded car you should be prepared for expensive albeit inconvenient issues/repairs. It just comes with the territory.
I'm by no means a BMW expert but I know a little about tinkering with stock cars to make them better. I haven't modded my 335 yet because it's still under warranty, but as soon as that expires I will be "going to town". But I know that the mods are only as good as the person who installs them and knows what the hell they're doing.
I know that Dinan is one of the most reputable BMW aftermarket providers so I would probably check with them as far as finding a way to safeguard yourself against astronomical repair costs. Other than that, I would try to find a knowledgeable BMW repair shop outside of the dealership in your area and check with them for their opinion. If they tell you they can work on it, then maybe it's work the risk if they know how to take care of the car. Otherwise, I would shy away from the mods.
I understand your AMG is probably way above the normal performance of a Benz, but it's covered because it's associated with the manufacturer. If you go outside the manufacturer, things can go south quickly.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Aside from the Dinan stuff, the car is already outside of warranty, so he can't get a BMW extended warranty.

BMW has severed ties with Dinan a while ago so - while some dealers still sell Dinan - it is no longer sanctioned by BMW.

I've always wondered why people wait until after the warranty expires to mod their cars. I guess it's based on the premise that modding will void the warranty on the parts that could be impacted (i.e. chip the ECU and if the turbos or engine blows = no warranty).

But, what's the point? Regardless of whether you mod on day 1 or after the warranty period, if you blow up your motor, you'd be paying out of pocket in either case. So why not just mod the car from day 1, while the engine and car are fresh, and enjoy the mods for as long as possible?

I'd rather take my chances w/ ECU upgrades on a fresh motor, HPFP, transmission & clutch, etc. than to add 100 lb/ft of torque after the car has accumulated 50K miles.

The thought is that a dealer might give them grief for their mods and deny warranty service on unrelated issues.

As anyone has been saying that car won't be CPOed by BMW dealer the only ext-waranty would be 3rd party.

Unless you get slam-dunk deal I wouldn't buy heavily mod car. I know it depends on how it's been driven but in general modded car is driven harder. Why not get unmod used car then mod it yourself.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. We went to test-drive the car because it seemed to represent a slam-dunk deal ($23K for 2007 E90 335i with Dinan stage 3 mods in place) but were disappointed to discover the car had only the premium package. No sport, no cold weather, no idrive, no keyless go (i think BMW calls it the comfort and convenience package?). I drove spiritedly around a clover-leaf onramp and the wife and I slid right out of our seats (not really - but I longed for the deep bolsters of the sport seats). On top of which the car had an unpleasant odor.

I've driven several stock 335s recently and this one definitely had some serious midrange punch; I'd say the Dinan stuff is worth it. The Dinan exhaust was aggressive but very pleasant.

My local dealership is also a Dinan dealer. I stopped in and test drove the two 2007 CPO e90 335is they had available. 2.9% financing on CPOs right now, BTW. I asked the salesman if they were still installing Dinan equipment; he said they were. I asked what effect Dinan upgrades would have on my warranty if I chose to buy one of his CPOs and have it modded; he said no effect. Take that for what it is worth.

I think I have decided to seek the best deal I can find on a loaded car with some remaining warranty, purchase the BMW extended warranty and have the upgrades installed by my dealer to retain warranty coverage. The hunt begins...

A quick google search yields some interesting info. Stage 3 adds ~100 horsepower and ~160 ft/lbs torque. There's a pretty sweet comparison of a stage 3 335 and a stock M3 here:

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/30/v...he-dinan-335i/

Sorry for the ugly link, but a neat comparison. Spoiler: M3 squeaks the win, but 335 S3 is cheaper.

Noob here, but i agree with the others, you should be able to get a warranty on the Dinan through Dinan. As for it not having the sports pkg, that wouldn't be a deal breaker if the price is right. Just find some M3 seats LOL. Regarding the Dinan S3 335i vs. M3, I would love to see some of the other aftermarket tuned 335s vs. a stock M3. I've seen posts on this and other Bimmer forums touting tuned 335s with well over the M3s 416 HP, add in a well tuned fully adjustable coil over suspension, light wheels, maybe throw on carbon hood and deck lid, could be a full on . I'd take either car if someone wants to give it to me. Barring that, I'll take an e92 335i 6MT with sport pkg and be very happy modding it as much (or little) as I want and enjoy the heck out of it. :
