Hi everyone,

I did a search for "brakes" and 'brake job" in this forum and was surprised I didn't find much for locally recommended shops, thus I'm posting this thread.

I'm just now over the 50K bumper-to-bumper service/maintenance period, and am in need of both front and rear brake pads and rotors. What I'm really hoping to do is find a really good independent shop or stand-alone mechanic that comes highly recommended, which can be my go-to for everything going forward. I live in Somerville, and the only dealership realistically close to me is Herb Chambers BMW in Allston. As I'm sure most of you know, HC is incredibly busy, expensive and besides the green apples they give out near the service bay, I'm not very happy with the level or quality of service I've received over the first 50k miles.

Is there a person or place most of you all go to and trust? Please let me know -- much appreciated!

Sorry but could you be a bit more specific? What does BPG stand for? (I'm guessing "G" is for Garage but outside of that, you got me). Address?

That's the one! Great set of guys there. Their prices may be a bit on the expensive side but they are one of the most knowledgeable and friendly staff you'll find around here.

Changing out rotors and pads is a relatively easy job to DIY. I suggest you spend $80 on a Bentley Service Manual for the 2006-2009 BMW 3 Series (E90,91,92,93), buy the parts (and tools) you need for the job, and DIY.

I find routine car maintenance to be an enjoyable/rewarding hobby that helps me learn more about my cars, ensures the job is done right (with the best parts available), and saves money too. You just have to spend a little bit of your time and effort doing it on a free weekend.

I know this is bringing this up from the dead, but....I always go to European Motorsport in South Boston. The guy has been incredibly honest and the prices always seem very fair. They did my brakes and rotors on my last BMW. Mike, the owner, is awesome to deal with.

German Performance Service is also great, but I echo another poster -- do it yourself!

don't even need a bentley for this job. Discs may not be needed and pads are an easy swap
