E92 problems, Can someone PLEASE HELP!
Hi All,
My wife is having major problems with her 3 series E92, 50k miles with full service history. We had the car in on the 27th August at Sytner Leicester and were told the car needed the spark plugs, ignition coils and fuel injectors replacing on cylinders 2&4. The initial comments back from Staff was "If the car was still under warranty this would be covered." The car went out of warranty in June 2007 and was not renewed by the previous owner. We ended up paying £200 for the labour. BMW UK were good enough to pay for the parts and 30% of the labour. We drove home, about 10 miles to my wifes work and then the major engine problem warning light came back on. After returning this back to Sytner we were told this was because the fuel low symbol had come on and we shouldn't have driven the car as a result of this, were told air had got into the system as a result of this. I thought when the light first came on there was still a small amount of fuel in the car. If this is the case then everytime the low fuel warning light comes on then every car can potentially have this problem! This would mean taking the car back to a dealer to have it checked and diagnosed at a charge of £85+ and to reset the warning light! On having this rectified and returning home, one small shopping trip later the engine fault light has now returned. Another trip to Sytner and we are now being told it is the Oxygen sensor and this is going to cost £239 to replace. Here is my issue. The car is just over 3 years old. A 3 year old luxury car should not need ignition coils, fuel injectors etc etc replacing. What is the quality of the parts used by BMW? Why has the Oxygen sensor now failed? I will be contacting BMW as well as Auto Express with my experience and problems as this is not what we expected when buying a 3 year old luxury car. Finally comments from Sytner staff such as "well if you had a warranty then you wouldn't have to pay" reduce my confidence even further in the reliability and quality of their cars. I hope someone can help rectify what the actual problem with this is? |

THere is a Sytner rep on the forum to help sort out when someone receives poor service from their group. The story about low fuel is just amateurish and laughable !
Does sound very early for all those components to fail, you should speak direct to BMW UK if you cannot get anywhere with Sytner. Can't see how warranty ran out in 2007 on an E92 ?? No matter whether you have warranty or not they have responsibility for early failure of items. They will punish you by asking you to pay some of the cost for not having taken out a warranty on the car but they certainly should be dealing with it as a goodwill payment. |

Oh dear....
Read the thread that Will pointed you to, but in my experience you'll ultimately need 4x injectors, plugs, coils, probably NOx sensor(s) and a software update before it will run anywhere near right. Good luck getting it sorted.

It can expensive if the previous owner didn't renew the warranty and you didn't get AUC.

AUC = Approved Used Car. Generally speaking buying anything around 3 years old is best from a BMW dealers as you would have a proper warranty to sort issues like you are experiencing with your car. Unless you paid a lot less privately or from an auction or similar the best option for most is AUC
Good luck with it- If you have a full BMW service history try and get some 'goodwill' from BMW

My ex-boss nearly ended up in a punch up with the service manager at Sytner Leicester! They screwed up the wiring in the doors of his 5er and after several failed repairs he took it to BMW Derby. They ended up calling in BMW UK as it was a bodged repair. They also f@cked up a repair on my old 5er leaving a breather hose dangling mid air. Their technicians were all allegedly sacked a few years ago and brought back on a self employed hourly rate basis. No work =no pay so low quality and morale

thats interesting about sytner leicester. having visited it once, a year or so ago, and comparing it to sheffield. i would have described it as a flagship store! being a lot more modern, parking, drive thru system, check in area, viewing area etc. i guess looks can be deceptive.

The N43 engine is a very advanced engine. It will start to misfire on low fuel because of the high precision injection system. I think they are fantastic, but they do have teething troubles. How many other medium sized 2.0l petrol cars return around 40 mpg?

I didn't know there was much difference between the 318 and the 320 but I get nothing like that.
You must have the only customer car better than BMW's own figures.
