!st time at the track V4.1 EMBARRASING!!

well ladies and germs, It's official!!
I completely sucked and embarrased myself, my car, and the BMW community in general..

While i'm not new to drag racing, I have done this with all my previous rides to include C6 vette, 3 different 350z's, 06' bmw 330xi and a Porsche Cayman S.
( all manuals)
while I dont claim to be "good" at it.. i am "OK"

I had my ass handed to me on every single one of 14 runs!!!!! I was sooo pissed and embarrased. most of the other cars looked to be stock form or mildly modded.
I lost to such premium cars as 350z, 2010 VW gti (4 times)
Magnum SRT8, unknown older civic (missed shift)

even when under way al those cars were slightly pulling on me.
yet on the way to the track and the way home it still "felt" strong??

my average 1/4 times were in the upper 13's
avg MPH was only about 102
I ground a FEW 1-2 shifts (maybe the RPM's to high? 6500 ish

even with my bad racing shouldnt the car still be able to pull on some of these others? at least part way down the track???

I didnt talk to anyone about their cars,
I spent the whole night making others feel good about "waisting a 335i!!"

the only things I had on my car was the V4.10 w/ 8-17 maps on map 2 agression level2 (how high does it go)
DCI, 95 oct. gas, LSD, CDV.

was I expecting too much? I should have let someone else race it to see how it could do
I'm sorry People i wont be returning to the track for some time untill I get a dyno reading.

Ill postint slips as they all suck, or take logs from the v4 as I dont know how to do that yet on the new software.

but still I should have done BETTER even as a novice
my times are the circled ones OR the lower ones

Even a STOCK 335i would be faster than any of the cars you listed with only 1/4 throttle. In reverse. With the mods you listed you should be dusting off Lambos and Ferraris in idle.

High 13s at 102 is what I do walking on foot.

I agree that even a stock 335i would have done better.

I wouldn't feel bad, I'd just go back and try again. I used to track my cars extensively and have been smoked by cars that shouldn't even register in my rearview mirror (actually they didn't, the were in front) and I've destroyed cars that should have been in front of me...
You should try motorcycles were rider accounts for probably 90%.
I love magazine guys, but, but, but the magazine said that....

I'm not an "expert" but with 2.2 to 2.4 60' times you need a lot of work on your launch for starters. You should be 1.9 to 2.0 and every .1 above that you loose .2 at the end. Also why are you trapping 102 when stock cars run around 105.......seeing you hit almost 105 on one run I am gonna say part of your problem is in the driver.....sorry but the 60' times tell a lot. Just my opinion. Practice......

yes, I said I was a major part of the problem and i know that, i had problems launching because i was trying to balance slowing the wheelspin/ hop while keeping the revs up,

not to mention how many times i missed / ground the 1-2 shift, quite often i would get a good chirp in 2nd, think i had revs to high
I welcome constructive criticism like yours

drag racing isn't as easy as everyone says it is. It takes lots of practice to perfect your launch, and get consistent 60 foot times. 90% of your run depends on how well you get out of the hole. As you learned, when you botch the launch, the whole run suffers because of it.

You just need practice. what rpm where you launching at? take notes for each run, like tire pressure and launch rpm. Once you get your launch sorted out, the low times will come.

And try to figure out why you are missing 2nd gear a lot. Are you trying to shift super fast and super hard? Maybe trying a bit too hard? you need to shift quickly, but don't try to brake any speed shifting records, and don't use too much force.

RPM's.. hmm i think somewhere between 4500- 6500 all point between i wasnt really watching, mainly concentrating on the light tree.. and then trying NOT to spinn.

Missing 2nd.. I was kinda forceful, it feels soo notchy, it never really went "easy" into gear there are a ton of variables, maybe clutch not in long enuf, too long, too many RPM, too soon too late or any combination or something else..

when i raced my old 350Z manual I got the same times I did here with MUCH less HP (stock)

You should be launching at 1800-2200 RPM, 4500+ is crazy high and you will just sit there and spin.

Once launched at 2000 RPM, don't mash the gas, start at about 1/2 throttle and ease into WOT.

Shift into 2nd at around 6200-6500 RPM, stay WOT with your mods at this point till the end.

Shift into 3rd at close to redline and finish off the race.

*With your mods, stay in Map 1 AutoTuned, do a few runs to have it adjust to WOT settings.

**Loose the stock RFT's and you will see a huge difference, those things just can't hold traction.

***Practice practice practice....I bet you can shave a second off your time.

don't feel bad OP. i had my first experience at the track ever about a month ago....and with all the mods in my sig plus 100oct fuel...i could only manage a 12.9 @ 111mph.

i can 100% contribute my dismal performance to inexperience, or driver error. my best 60ft time was 2.2+......i just couldn't figure out how to properly launch the car.(not to mention i was on 245 Falkens...on normal tire pressure). i still managed to embarrass quite a few cars...which the domestic folks didn't take too kindly.

i can't wait to get back on the track...with better tires and technique...more runs will = better times.

!st time at the track V4.1 EMBARRASING!!

Are you all serious??? I just ran my first run (ever) tonight at the Kinston drag track in NC and the best I could run was 14.2 @ 99.2 mph.

I have the 6MT and would brake launch. my RT was .5 and I was shifting right around 6K.

If you believe this car (stock) can run mid 13's then I need some sole searching. I'll post my slip soon.

This weekend I will be installing my ETS FMIC as well as my Procede. I plan on tracking the car in Oct so I'm excited to see what it will be able to do.

you need some serious soul searching then. any 335i can easily run mid thirteens bone stock. You and the OP need some serious practice. thats all. 14.2 is just horrifying.
