Dealer Mark-up

So fellas, we all know this car is going to be priced below the M3 price, but who actually believes they can purchase one for under an M3 price?

I'm willing to bet each dealer has a 10-15k mark up on MSPR, putting the total price at roughly $55-60k. People will argue "well I can just get an M3 for that price, this is stupid", and dealer will say, "well I'll be glad to sell you an M3 instead, but the 1M is very exclusive and youre paying for the exclusivity".

So the fact the 1M is "more obtainable than any other M car" in my opinion is bs, because if you can even find one of the < 2700, you'll still be paying more than an M3.

Just my 2 cents.. Opinions?

If nobody buys one at mark up then the mark up will dissapear. All the hype and speculation on this site certainly doesn't help reduce the chances of a mark up. I certainly won't buy a 1M if I can't get it for MSRP or lower.

I think they are just going to piss off all these people, they were hoping to bring to the brand.

All this buzz, may end up blowing up in BMW's face!

Not many people are going to buy the 1M if the mark up puts it anyhwere near the M3s price.

I'm guessing that it will be just slightly above the 335IS price

If they mark it up. They lose my business. MSRP is set by BMW. Im sure they considered the number of units in it as well.

You guys who think there will be a mark up are nuts. No one is going to buy this car over an M3 for the same amount of money. Simple as that.

You are correct... I have, and will continue to buy cars, from my dealer.

I was first on their list almost 18 months ago, and I'd never pay over MSRP, and I dont even have to bring that up, it is a given!

I'm first on my dealer's list and he made clear to me that he would never under any circumstances charge more than MSRP. I think 2700 for the world, and at least 500 for the US (probably more), will probably be plenty given no DCT, limited colors, etc.

I completely agree with you all. They throw a 10-15k mark up on the vehicle, no one will buy it, and they will EVENTUALLY have to lower the price. I'm just thinking back to when I bought a Z33 350z back in 2003. Nissan only released 7,000 units in 2003, and EVERY SINGLE DEALER wanted 5k over the MSRP. If you refused, they found another person on the list to buy it. People were even selling their allocation slots on eBay for profit.. It was ludicrous.

I wouldn't purchase one over MSRP as well, not even $500 over. It's more about principle.

Lets just hope dealers don't get greedy and piss off a lot of potential customers....

yea, seems that the hype and limited production might backfire on BMW... and if there's no ED, then forget it.

I think you guys not wanting to pay 50k will be in for a shocker. I recently did a build your own 135i on BMW.com and ended up with a car pushing 45k with a 6 speed gear box. A DCT trans would push it close to 47k. I honestly think 50k is the right price point for a 1M. Sorry, the M3's I have shopped for are in the 70-75k range. Sure maybe I could score a decent CPO M3 for the price of a new 1M but I highly doubt anyone would pay for dealer mark up for a car that is in the 50k range with so many other options available.

I must have missed something. Does anybody really think we won't be able to do ED? I would have to pass also if that turns out to be true.

Any dealer charging over sticker is shooting himself in the foot. It will translate into disgruntled customers, negative feedback and commentary sent to BMW NA, and overall bad rep. Undoubtedly some dealers with try and ask for a mark-up, the first few desperados that want the car will pay through the nose, and all will subside pretty quickly. I imagine most people buying the 1 ///M have already good relationship with their dealers so that will go a long way to buying a car for sticker.

With some options, the sticker will be damn near a base M3, so pushing it any higher can cannibalize sales (or even worse, sway sales to something like the TT-RS which will be sold right around the same time).

Yea, in fairness to BMW - it's all speculation on our part now -- as to MSRP, ED, and more...but I trust that someone is keep tabs on how enthusiasts feel about the 1M's debut.

If they are limited in production will you be able to order one as you want equipped or be stuck with a fully optioned out car?

Last time I was at the dealer I took a look at 335is vert and it stickered for 69k. The year before, another dealer was dealing on M3s for 6k under sticker.

Z4 MC was even more limited production than the 1M will be, was the highest performance car BMW sold at the time in the USA, and it sold at a massive discount... Take that for what it's worth.

Dealers, including the one I sell BMWs at, have been reprimanded lately for marking up specialty vehicles. The practice of 10k markups will soon stop as the factory distribution reps are not fond of this horrible practice.

You're comparing fully loaded vehicles. I agree a fully loaded 1M would be 50k+ but I'm talking about MSRP. I expect the MSRP to be no higher than 47k. With a mark up, it would be mid-50's I'd assume, THEN you add your options, you could easily be in the 60k's..

Personally, if I can get one at MSRP, I'll consider it. If not, then no 1M for me. Def. not paying 50k+ for a 1M which has 0 options. No sir..!

I think people are over reacting to the 1M anyway. I doubt there will be a flood of people running in to buy the 1M. Its a coupe, it costs 45k+, it doesn't have the prestige of the M3, it only comes in manual, etc etc. Its a very niche car that will only appeal to a small percentage of people. I believe they won't have a market for a price up, unless you go in there super excited and they can read your face
