E92 Loose Rear End

I have the E92 coupe with the sports package with the 18 inch tires and 255/35's on the rear.

I notice when the road is uneven and bumpy, the rear end feels like it wants to slide out. This is noticeable if I drive only one side of the car (say the right side) over a manhole cover that is maybe recessed an inch (i.e. 25 mm for you Europeans).

Anybody else notice this? I have had the car since new (2007) and it only has 18,000 miles so it can't be shocks or bushings.

This is more noticeable when it is wet out.

This is why we can't have nice things. And by nice things, I mean LSDs.

LSD does shit for you with what the OP is describing. Trust me, i have LSD and it doesn't help. Hell, i have ohlin coliovers, swift springs, m3 bushings, m3 control arms and then some.
Also, OP, i have a 2007 335 and i had the same feeling. Hence why i upgraded all the components. I still don't feeling 100% steady.

Ok coming from my previous E90 that had LSD, to my current 335, I can say LSD does make a dfiference.. but however I was also noticing slidding out when i bought my 335 esp when going over a drain cover or anything slippery on the road.

I didnt believe it was due to not having LSD as every other cay without LSD never slips like mine did. Anyway long story short... IT was my tyres, they were wearing out, as soon as I changed them to new ones..problem solved.

mine also had 18k on the clock when it was doing that.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys. I have talked to a poster on another forum who had this same problem and it is due to tires.

My rear tires are cupped on the inside and need replacing. The Bimmer has a lot of camber, so the inside of the tire is the main point of contact.

The poster I talked to said the problem went away as soon as he changed the tires.

It is a little uncomforting because the rear end wants to kick out if one wheel is going over something slippery at any speed above 30 miles an hour.

change to non-runflat, helps as well. the hard side wall of the rft make it bouncy. a non-rft can absorb bumps much better.

Yes, I have run flats but don't want to switch because I don't have a spare tire.

Yes, loose due to horrible runflat tires! They really make the handling suck.

+1 I swapped out my 18inch RFTs for 19" Falkens Fk452s non-RFT and what a difference...Also RFTs are super super heavy..I shed at least 40 pounds going from RFT to non-RFT and the ride is better on 19s non-RFT then w 18s RFT.

It has nothing to do with LSD.

It has everything to do with the RTABs, Subframe bushing, and such.

The installability of this car compared to my stock 2003 M3 I had is appalling.

Were you arguing that AWD has some type of superior road handling and doesn't tramline, swerve all over the road with changes in the surface?

I totally agree the stock suspension on the 335i is total shit..I am upgrading my entire suspension w all the M3 control arms, sways, subframe bushings and proper coilovers w linear springs..and I am also running an LSD..honestly I wouldnt even think of putting an LSD in this car without addressing all the other stock suspension issues.

Once you do these upgrades u can then align the car properly..I get the same feeling of instability and being all over the road too..The 335i is not meant to be a true track car like the M3..its built w comfort in mind which sucks for guys who wanna push its limits.
