e92 HIDs not colorful?

I've observed my vehicle driven by another at night, was trying to see how much color the projector actually has. It doesn't seem like it has any flicker color (the hues of purple/blue/pink) when the car goes up and down over uneven ground. Cars that commonly have alot of color is the s2000, TSX, and most AUDI's. I had a retrofit setup in my previous car with some S6 ECE projectors and those were pretty colorful. Anyone else notice this? A mod that i've seen on hidplanet.com was to 'bend' the cutoff inside the projector to get a cutoff distortion (color enhancement). Any other ideas?

the attached doc is the 335i on the garage door

and the other is the retrofit ece projector color

why would you want your headllights to be colorfull, thats kinda dumb, why does everyone want to make their BMW into a civic? thats one of the reasons i chose to buy a bmw not to be associated with that kind of crap

but to answer your question, why dont you just go all the way and cover your headlights with that blue tint? then your ride will be phat dawg

this is what you need http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-06...QQcmdZViewItem

The stock xenons are about 4350K (daylight white). If you want a bluer hue, go with the available 6000K bulb upgrade.

LOL--there are always cost concerns with these Xenons--expensive to change, repair, anything! I wish the stock color was a little more blue, but I've seen other threads that show there is a fair amount of work and cost involved.

nothing wrong with the stock color. I recommend changing out your fogs to match the headlights. Looks great!

i like how bright they are...

cuz people with cars that doesnt have xenons always install xenons that are "blue", this separates cars that originally have xenons and car that doesnt come with xenons...

Personally, I liked my Audi S4's lights better than my 335s -- they were a "better tone" -- which made it easier to see. I like the look of the mod done in the "lux 2.0 rings" thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42902

hold on there technokid, if you reread my post, its not for OVERALL BLUE output like a civic with a bootleg 8000K hid kit. The references I made in the original post were to the s2000, acura tsx, and yes they are honda cars, but have you seen their headlamps at night? they have a prismatic look when they change different angles. if you go over to hidforum and look those projectors up, you'll know they are the most colorful

i didn't mention anywhere in my original post that i wanted my overall light output to be blue, if i did, i'd know where to do it, swap the bulbs with 6K-10K bulbs as everyone has mentioned, but if you look at those pictures, right at the cutoff, there is a hue of color BUT there is white light under the cutoff color. The hue of color at the cutoff is very thick on the lower picture (that's the color you see when you see a colorful projector on the road), and very thin on the 335i cut off (not colorful at all). If you've seen ferrari's and lamborghinis at night, they have a pretty nice cutoff color, very noticeable.

And why would I want the headlights to be more colorful? It's not the headlights that is more colorful, it's the cutoff of the projector that will have a thicker color band at the cutoff, as I said before, that's what you see when you see an s2000 (or even a e39 5-series, they used a nice bosch projector at that time) changing angles in your rear view mirror.

And civics usually won't achieve a nice projector cutoff color without some sort of retrofit from a higher end vehicle, then in a sense I guess I would want my car to look like a civic.

If you'd like more information on hid projector retrofits or projector cutoff color, please pm me.

no its exactly like this civic, the whole blue tinted thing that came with hids want intentional im sure, but then all the civics wanted the blue light on their non HIDs to be cool

now you have HIDs w/o the blue effect that illuminate just as good but you want to go and make them blue, that screams rice

theres no reason for it unless you want to be associated with the ricers

hah, okay i give up, you're ignorance to understand what i'm trying to explain is ridiculous, you win, you're ignorance to HID technology is also ridiculous

for all those who actually understand what i'm trying to explain, please provide feedback, but if not, then it's fine to let this thread fade away, thanks for all the respectable feedback though

he's talking about how the color of the light changes when it's at an angle or elevation change. if you look from far away the color would be more bluish and when you get up close, it would appear more white. it has nothing to do with the bulb itself. like what darnelli said, most AUDIs are like that. my friend also told me that he noticed that on the new M5.

the point is if you can have it not be blue, why would you WANT it to be blue, the only reason i can see someone wanting their headlights so be blue is for the same reason the ricers want their headlights to be blue

give it up bro, clearly you don't really know what the topic of the thread is, and on another note, this arguin has no benefit to the topic at hand, leave it alone, leave the thread if you don't have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to post, thanks

teknochild, they are referring to the "colorband" in the projectors, not the function of HID's.

You can still retain bright white light on the ground, but have this effect:

So when you are driving, your car's headlights only APPEAR to be deep purple or blue to others like an audi or Porsche. It is not rice at all.

No one wants to have 12000K "mad tyte" aftermarket HID's. Just that the headlights on our cars have such a bland yellow colorband that they come off looking like halogens.

no i know exactly what you guys are talking about, but you just drove my point home, even though the lights work perfectly, you guys want to modify your lights so they apear to 'look cool' those of "an audi or Porsche"

therefore the mentality is the same as a guy with a civic, the only diffrence is the bmws actualy have HIDs, that luckily dont have that annoying blue tint (or ba~nd), until you guys change them

so why what purpose does it serve? who cares if they look like halogens, even though they dont and anyone with half a brain can tell they are HIDs
