SoCal: list of dealerships with good & bad service depts
Hey folks, I was searching through the section and couldn't find a thread that has all info in one place, so I thought a thread with list of good/bad service departments would be a good idea.
From what I heard, Pacific and Valencia's service department aren't that great. I bought my car from Pacific, pricing was really good, but I doubt I will go there for service. Their service department is actually located away from the actual dealership The driveway is kind of steep too, with not enough room to angle, so you lowered folks may scrape. I hear of good things of Sherman Oaks since Matt is a tech over there. It looks like I will go to him for my first oil change after break in to get some fresh oil in. Anyone else have experience with Century west or other dealers service departments in the San Fernando Valley? This thread is for all SoCal, so anyone is more than welcomed to post their own experience with any dealership Hopefully the thread will turn out to be successful. |

I just want folks to list their experiences, whether good or bad, here. So it is easy to search. It would be hard for me to in for a scheduled service in 3 days...and try to PM everyone that is in SoCal, hoping that some may have visited the dealerships around my area. Who knows how many times a day or week a member logs in and post. I'm sure you would be pissed off if say, you go in for an oil change at a dealership with bad rep without knowing and when you drive out, the tech who performed the oil change on your car didn't tighten the oil drain plug all the way..so you were leaking oil on all the way home... |

no no no.. ahahah I ment PM each other to let us know what dealerships are ok with having any mods or things like that.
people search the forums, and i have personaly known techs getting fired for always helping people with modded cars. for sure post up any good experiences and bad experiences with quick services and all that. jsut dont say. "Matt at BMW of sherman oaks doesnt care if you have mods, he wont say anything to the service manager" ahah |

I work near Santa Monica BMW.......and everyone I know that has been there has absolutely hated that location. Avoid it completely!!!
I have been to South Bay BMW twice...and service was very good...but I would not say great. I have been to BMW of San Diego...not so great experience when it came time for taking delivery. However, I did have a great experience with a service appointment once when I was visiting there.

The count down service indicator. I remember the warning light comes on at around 1000 miles to go,
but they make you wait till 50 miles before they will do the free service. fk |

Yeah Irvine gives out crap loaners from Hertz. I ended up with a Toyota Highlander but drove it down to San Diego so it wasn't such a total loss. Chris, gym tomorrow beyotchhhhh!!!

I've been to Southbay BMW about 7 times total. Ive been treated very well. They do have loaner cars, but I would suggest you make your appointment at least 3 weeks in advance cause they are pretty busy.

I've had good experience with Long Beach BMW....that's where I take my E46, but now that I'm in the OC when the service lamps comes on in the E92 I'll scope out Irvine BMW.
Like mentioned above, if you can stay away from Santa Monica BMW's service. Sales is awesome.....but service depending on your SA it can be okay to crap! |

I've read a lot of reports to stay away from Irvine BMW. I called this week, they said they wouldn't give me a loaner unless I bought my car there.
Had an appointment with Sterling BMW yesterday. Service was very quick, they told me ahead of time they did not have any BMW loaners left, so I was rented a Nissan Altima (right next door). At first the lady on the phone wanted to charge me for a rental ($30/day) and I told her I bought the car there. That changed her toon. The service consisted of recalibrating my brake pad sensors as they said I needed new brake pads on the front/rear @ 2400 miles. I later called and told them my CD player keeps on playing even after my car was off. The software was updated and the SA told me that this was a TSB (don't have the TSB #). Checking out was very quick. My SA's name was Tony.

I've given all 5s EVERY time I've been to Steve Thomas BMW in Camarillo. Services have ranged from regular scheduled, alarm add, to a replacement of the passenger seat sensor for airbag. Mike always takes great care of me. If he has a loaner, even if I just walked in for service, he gets me in it. Otherwise there is a rental company on site.
Car always comes back clean inside and out. |

To the OP's point I'm sure you will hear both good and bad stories from every dealership. I had a bad experience once at Sterling but that was proably 12 or so years ago so I'm not sure if that counts. I used to go to Irvine before they moved (Saddleback BMW back then) never had any problems except that they never had any time to get you in so I've been using a mechanic who saved my ass on the track one time ever since. Now that I've got a new car again I'll probably give Irvine and or Crevier another shot. Anyone have any SA recomendations at either place?
