Damaged in Shipment
My CA called and said the 535i I ordered 60 days ago was still at the VPC. He blamed the delay on a transportation issue. The car had been there since Aug 3rd. Thought is was unusual to be taking so long. Finally went to the dealership and spoke with the sales manager. He informed me that the car was damaged during shipment and they were replacing the rear bumper. It had not been released to transport and he said it would probably get to the dealership at the end of August sometime. Luckily I had not put a deposit down. Ordered another through another dealership. I believe these guys will sell this car and not tell the owner it was damaged.

it's not unheard of for a vehicle to be damaged during shipping, however it's unfortunate your first dealership tried to hide this from you...hope everything goes well with your second purchase..
BTW: mind letting members know which dealership/CA you were dealing with initially...

And it seems like the dealer was honest with the OP, so I wouldn't be too harsh on them. BTW, anyone who buys a BMW can ask the SA to look up the car history and see if it had any repairs at the VPC, whether you order the car or it's just one in stock. All you have to do is ask. If they say they can't do it, they're either untrained or lying to you.

My last ED was damaged in transit. It too hung at the VPC for weeks until I finally called customer service at the NA HQ. The next day, the dealer called me and told me what happened. The VPC did a perfect job repairing the car and they even replaced a wheel that I had rashed on my trip. But the damage and repair is now part of the car's permenent record in BMW's system and that's not good for my trade-in value. |
