unless you have an 08 most people will probably be taking a pretty hefty hit on their car do to it.

i have a 2011 128i, i purposely got the cheapest 2 year lease so that I can return it for the 1M. putting the money I saved over the loaded 135 in savings as we speak I agree though - 1M is one to keep for a long time.

I wont be trading my 135i in for it. At least not for the first model year, let them make a few first run tweaks and get a few more miles on my 135i.

Depends on what it turns out to be. If it's not much more than a 135is, then it hardly justifies the cost. If it's on another level and still has room for improvement, then it's very tempting. I may also be more tempted if it comes in Laguna Seca.

There are so many options out right now and probably more once this hits the market. Only time will tell but if the specs are good then count me in. I'm actually considering the new M5 as well since we're expecting another edition to the family. We'll see...

My lease is up in Oct 2011. Perfect timing for me. It will be between 1M and a CPO M3. I'm leaning towards the M3 because of the NA engine. But, we'll see once I drive the 1M. I had my heart set on a 335i coupe...until I drove the 1er!

I was hoping to do this, but my lease is up in April of 2011, and the 1M doesn't look to be here until Summer of 2011.

I was talking about this in another thread a while back--maybe I should get a beater for a few months...the timing will make it hard on my situation...

There will be a decent amount of people who got the first "wave" of 135s that will fall into that category....

If I had known there would be a 1M in 2011, I would not have bought a 135i in 2009. I would have instead bought a used E46 M3 to drive in the meantime. But I did buy a 2009 135i, and I have invested way too much money modding it to make a trade-in worthwhile. Anyway, my car is already pretty close to a 1M except for the fenders and wheels. So I'll wait and eventually replace it with a 2016-17 1M or possibly Cayman S.

I'm waiting on the official engine announcement to decide for sure. If it has the n54 I'm putting my car back to stock and modding the 1m.

That's the tricky part. How long of a production run are they gonna do.Scott doesn't wanna answer that one.I'm like others who wanna let the madness of the 1st year sift out.Question is,will there be 2 years production of this car or will it be like the Mini GP?(limited # of cars)

I'm kinda with GaryS on this one....had i known back in 09 about this car I probably wouldn't have bought the 135 at the time and I've also spent a good chunk modding the car a bit. I'm undecided as to what to do when the 1M comes around...looking forward to the convertible version if I can somehow make the jump I plan on it.

oh I don't doubt that at all since it'd be a 3, maybe even 4 yr old car they'd be giving up but to trade in a '10 or '11 model for an M car that can't offer much more power than a 135i with a tune, dp's/exhaust, FMIC/intake and upgraded suspension components can is a pretty big hit to take with a minimal gain. You'll easily lose 20-30% of the value in your car from what you paid and for what, a couple of body panels and larger seats?. I realize there is something special about owning an M, don't get me wrong, but this doesn't feel the same as the jump from a 335i to an M3 (Turbo I6 < V8) so I'm not really sure it'd be worth the price you'll have to pay to get one.

Plus these cars are pretty good at having easily retrofitted components. If you wanted M seats or some of those types of components then it's not too hard to get um and make um fit.

I think this M1 will be produced 2 years. The next M1 could come in 4 years, this means during 2 years there will be no M1.

Its an interesting idea for several reasons. Personally, I'm selling my 1 to carmax today. It was a tough decision. In a year to a year and a half I'll be able to buy whatever I want so it will be nice to have alot more freedom. If I had a 10' or 11' I'd be kind of upset though it would be my fault. I'm already a little upset and I have an 2008. There is no way I would've bought my car if I knew a 1M was coming out. And now, the way I see it, is that the car will be mostly the same. Mostly meaning, I don't get 10/10ths out of my 135, so the difference will be somewhat superficial. If I tracked my car or drove aggressively, i.e. unsafely the majority of the time, the 1M would be more desireable. The reality is I don't. I've had extreme performance tires on my car for 18K and they still look good.. What does that say about how I drive??!! lol.. It is all kinda funny.

To me the 1M will be a modified version of my car. Everything inside will mostly be the same.. Different gauges, seats, roof lining and stiffer ride probably won't be enough. It will be faster but its not like my car is a slouch. Maybe after driving my interim 5er it will seem that much better. I don't know.. To me, this car came to late. I think I've moved past the 1 desire after I sell this one. I'll have to see it when it comes out. And to those that think they'll keep it forever, unless your history speaks otherwise, you're probably kidding yourself. I've had to come to grips with the amount of time I keep cars..lol.

It is all a trap I tell you.. lol.. Cars, an expensive hobby..

Some really good points here and I agree on many. Hoping this car turns out to be underpromised and overdelivered, but I've been wrong and burned before. I'm done with my 135i regardless, so it'll be either this or a CPO'd ///M3.

It depends on several factors. How much I can sell my 135 for being the biggest one. I accept I will take a hit, but if the hit is too big then I won't bother.

That's the great thing about cars, there is always something newer, faster, better next year.

Also, the rumor-mill is churning in regards to the Audi TT-RS... I may just be plunking down for one of those if the price is right in a couple years.

Lots of good options out there if I get tired of the 135.

I think most people on this site are going to be underwhelmed with the 1-M. I think BMW is going to keep the base below $50K and will probably take a hundred pounds out of the car and put between 20-30 HP over the 335is.

End of day, economics will play the largest role. There is just so much that BMW can do without getting the price above $50K. I also think this car is going to be a fairly limited run, as they don't want to dilute too much the M Brand. I think as much disappointment will hit the folks that don't mind tuning, there is a big population of folks that don't even consider turning that will be more than happy to pay MSRP for the 1-M.

My lease expires next year, I'm either CPOing my 135i (most likely), getting a 1-M or a CPO M3. Nothing else really interests me.

My 2010 is my DD and has plenty of gittyup for a daily car. I plan on keeping it for at least 5 years. I might add some go faster parts from the M car if doable but not a priority now.

The plan is to stock my 2009 and buy a 2012 1M-Coupe. I won't be losing too much as I've purchased my 135i well under invoice through military sales.

I'm single, I'm young, I still have a life of my own. I might as well have fun while I can.
