Performance Center Delivery in SC

HI ALL DC Metro's -- I am NEW on this site and soon to be proud 335i owner (on 1/19 taking Performance Center Deliver in SC). A few questions:

1) Any of you taken PC Delivery? What to expect, like/dislike?
2) How's the drive home to NoVA from SC??
3) Any e92 owners out there want to give me some feedback?
4) When's the next meeting or group drive?
- I know this sounds really foolish, but I cannot WAIT to get this car, and cannot wait to meet other owners...to exchange stories and custom ideas...

I really want to do wheels/tires, custom lighting, and maybe BMW aero kit (avail yet?) -- any ideas??

Thanks all!! I cannot wait to tear up Ashburn in the new car!!

Welcome Scott! Glad to have you on board.

I haven't done PCD myself so I can't help you there but iirc, among us, cycler2 (Rich) is the most recent DC metro'r to do the PCD. You might want to PM him some questions for the most up to date info.

Aside from that, there are many general PCD threads abound on this forum. Also check out (http://www.performancecenterdelivery.com/) and (http://www.bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/...enter/delivery) if you haven't done so already.

Additionally, PM willwin2day (Donnie Isley) e90post's renowned resident Performance Center insider/instructor for even more specific PCD questions. He is very supportive and enthusiastic.

Last but not least, please take the time to list on our growing DC metro registry at (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26738)

Scott- Welcome to the forum. To answer some of you questions...

1) Any of you taken PC Delivery? What to expect, like/dislike?

Most of the Itinerary you can find in those threads posted by Donny. Basically:

- You fly down

- Stay at a nice Marriot Hotel for the night, on BMW's tab. Dinner (but not drinks) on BMW's tab as well. But in regards to the drinks, remember that the next day's activities (especially the drive home) will be much more enjoyable if you take it easy on the libations for that evening. Trust me, I made the mistake of going to bed drunk at 3:00am the night before and having to wake up @ 7:00am-ish to catch the shuttle over to the Delivery.

- Go to the Zentrum Museum. I opted out of this option for resons mentioned above. I was just in no mood to walk through a museum. Therefore, I have no feedback on it.

- Take a factory tour. Unfortunately, I was not able to go on this as well but that was because they had to close the factory to the public at the time. I believe that this coincided with the fact that the M-coupe was about to start production or something like that. Basically, there was sensitive stuff going on in there.

- Driving a comprable vehicle to your vehicle. You get to take out a vehicle specced out similar to yours (at least in my case, a 330i) and flog it around a wet course (more like a circle). But you really get to test these cars in extreme situations such as hard braking in wet road conditions and you get to experience the ABS working. Then there's also the non-wet course. This was actually very fun because you get to drive through another track full of twisties and sweeping turns.

- The most important part! Taking delivery of your car. This part was awesome because you have a PCD specialist go through every detail of your car with you and you can ask any questions. Remember to take lots of pictures during this point because once you get in it, you'll forget to take them.

2) How's the drive home to NoVA from SC??

The Drive home from SC was beautiful! Very scenic. Granted, I did get to drive back in the middle of Autumn but you will get to see some nice sights. It was clear most of the day for me, so I hope it is for you as well.

3) Any e92 owners out there want to give me some feedback?

Sorry, can't help here.

4) When's the next meeting or group drive?

You'll most likely be aware of our next outing. This regional forum is very well organized through the hard work of our members and news spread pretty quick around here. You won't be left out. We have been, for a little while now, trying to get a HH together though. But with the Holidays and such, it was not the best time.

I hope this all helps. Please feel free to PM me should you have any more questions. Otherewise, I know all of the other members here can answer any question for you.

Dude, we're brothers!!! I took delivery of the same car back in Nov (same exact color, trim, options). good thing we're on the other side of the river

1) Any of you taken PC Delivery? What to expect, like/dislike? It was a blast. I'd recommend it to anyone buying a new BMW and the only way I'm gonna take delivery in the future. The only unfortunate thing when I went was that the factory tours were discontinued b/c of the introduction of the new X5. You are actually going after the tours start back up (Jan 8th), so that should be fun.

The only other thing I didn't like was that the PC only had 330i sedans to track. Donnie Isley said that the e92 was too new and they'd probably get them later this year since all the new models go to customers first. Its still a blast driving someone else's car around the track though.

Probably the highlight for me was taking the new X5 on the off-road course. Since the factory tours were unavailable, we were able to track the new beasts. There were about 20 of them sitting in the lot b/c a few days prior, BMW had a big media day to show it off. I thought my current X5 handle very well, but the new ones are unbelievable!!!

2) How's the drive home to NoVA from SC?? not a bad drive home, although I broke it up over a few days and made a mini vacation out of it. I stopped in Pinehurst, Raleigh, and Richmond, and had a great time. Bring a radar detector!!!

3) Any e92 owners out there want to give me some feedback? Since you're picking it up in the dead of winter, you may want to think about getting winter tires and a clear bra. There's a local guy down there that did my clear bra and he was great (PM me if you need more details). His shop is only a few miles away, so after taking delivery, I drove it over to him, and 3 hours later he was done. I thought getting this done before I drove home was crucial since I didn't want anything to mess up the paint on the long drive home. As for winter tires, you can probably get TireRack to dropship a set of rims/tires somewhere local. I didn't do this but you never know what the weather will be like in Jan.

Also, Frederick Valdez was my delivery specialist and he was very well versed (and I thought I knew a lot about BMWs). Take the full 2 hours to review everything, especially Nav/iDrive. There were a few things I forgot he said, but figured it out later (info overload). Make sure they pair your phone too.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies so far! Definitely looking forward to the experience. I would like the name/number of the clear-bra guy you went to, I think I need to get that done regardless of the time of year...tires/wheels should not be an issue as I am planning to get a set of 19"s at some point.

Good to know you guys are around town. Looking forward to the meet.

Hi Scottz71,

I took delivery of my 328i sedan at the PC on October 17. Here's a link to my write-up. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35589 It's long, but you may find the detail useful.

I've also posted lots of pictures, which are in the photo gallery of this site. Go to http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35910, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35927, and http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35928.

The drive home was manageable, but we had rain all the way back to Virginia, and there was lots of traffic and accidents, so it took us a bit longer than we expected. I took us about 7 hours to get to Charlottesville, Va. I spent the night there and drove the remaining 2 hours home the next day. You can probably do the whole thing in 7 to 8 hours in decent weather. I would recommend breaking the trip up into two days, however.

Congratulations on your new 335i.

For everyone that has never met Donnie, I'll tell you that he's got the coolest job on earth, and is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet!

Donnie -- thanks for making our delivery day and driving experience special. I cannot wait to go back to the Performance Center for more 'instruction.'
