Winter Tires again
Sorry, looking for winter tires RFT as I realize a spare + stuff (ie baby stuff) may not cut it.
If my car is 328 i sport (07) and original is 17" rims and 225/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear should I go down to 16" and do the box config as tirerack says with new rims? |

Stick with 17's, I run 225/40/18's on my stock rims as my winter set up.

Its still a bit early to tell what will be available, but you may want to check back around mid to late September. Winter http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AH8&...nter/index.jsp

You could run the larger tires out back but I would try to run the same size all around this way you can rotate your winter tires later on. The same tire size will be ok with the the wider rims out back.

You should go with 225/45/17 all around, those will fit your OEM wheels, even if the rears wheels are 17x8.5.

If i wanted to can i permanently forget about the staggered setup and stick with 225/45/17 even in the summer???
My second question is it it better to buy a set of 16"s ie 205/55/16 tires + wheels versus going with the 225/45/17 tires in winters? Although I don't have to buy wheels if I stick with the 17"s someone says everytmie I change the tires, there is mounting and balancing instead of just ? mounting (if the wheel and tire and together) Last edited by seanbig; 08-09-2010 at 07:38 PM.. |

The 205/55R16 setup would have an advantage in loose snow traction, but would be a step down in dry handling/cornering and steering response compared to 225/45R17.

Sean
I ran Blizzak WS 60 205/50/17s last winter with great results. I have a non sport 335d that gives you a little more clearance and it was unstoppable up to about seven inches. One of the best winter cars I've ever driven. |
