HPFP N54 Engine Issues getting larger.....

Was reading the news this morning on Google and came by this article. http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/au...ompa/19560998/

Looks like BMW might have to start coming up with a solution to the fuel pump problem if more articles like this start getting into the main stream news and television.

I just saw it on the list. When I first glanced through it, it looked like no one else had posted it yet.

BMW needs to look at all possibilities of driving conditions.

On freeway when you gets limp mode, you roll slowly and have time to get off into emergency lane to stop.

BUT, how about on rural area on 2-lane high-way passing a semi then gets limp and another semi coming from opposite direction? with kids in the car? BMW better put all resources on this before it's too late (for anyone)

No one would probably never now....perhaps some bystander would be able to hear "Limp mode!!!" from inside the car before impact.

No worries, there is already 2 pages going in the thread, figured it'd be easiest to continue it there

I hope BMW never willingly roll dice like that, if they do I need to sell all my cars ASAP.

Case point, if BP known they'd lost $17-billion in revenue due to incident I bet BP would rather spend extra $100 million to install second/third under sea bed valves in hindsight.

I think BP is a great lesson on life much less a couple extra valves and your right about getting rid of your cars. But then again, every car has issues and sooner or later they will be brought forward. Nothing mechanical is perfect!

Nothing mechanical is perfect but wouldn't you at least try to at least come up with a better solution for future applications? Epic Fail on BMW's part.

well I think their answer was going from the N54 to the N55
and changing the current N54 for the iS

But we'll see

But attempt on safety has to be else you are saying we don't even need to spend money on homeland security cause everything in life is random.
My point is I'll get rid my BMWs if I know they don't care about my safety, well wouldn't you.

I am an engineer and "safety is by design not coincidence", maybe BMW next slogan.

What does going to a single twin-scroll turbo have to do with the fuel injection pump? That's what this issue is all about. I don't recall that the N55 has an all-new fuel-delivery system, does it?

This is rly getting old. My car randomly goes into limp mode n it makes me second guess when I have to pass someone or when I have to pass a truck on a 2 lane hwy

"Wheaton says he thinks the recent BMW complaints aren't yet significant enough to get NHTSA's attention because there have been no reports of death or injury."

OK - who is going to be the first volunteer to step forward and "take one for the team"? Anyone....? C'mon, we need a little "attention" from NHTSA (and BMW).
