What am I doing wrong at the Drag Strip?

1) Model and Transmission - 335i 4 E90 - Step
2) Elevation, Temp and Humidity - Sealevel, 95 degrees, 80% Humidity
3) All performance modifications done to the car - V4 Auto Tune, Dual Cone
4) Level of gas ran and how much gas in the tank? - Half tank, 93
5) Any weight reduction done to the car? - None
4) Type of tires and rims? - Stock 18" All Season non-run flats
5) Years of driving the type of transmission? - First time with Auto
6) 13.694 @ 102.42 - 1.996 60' - Capitol Raceway, MD

I made 13 runs between 5:45pm and 10:15pm...only once did the tranny have a problem where it would not shift when I hit the button.

I really thought this car would run closer to 13.2 or something around those numbers with the Tune and DCI. The car was consistant with times as low as 13.694 @ 102.42 and as high as 13.940 @ 101.32. I ran the car in DS/manual mode break boosting to about 2krpm and shifting around 6200rpm. I tried letting the tranny do the shifting but my trap time was lower. Below are some of my numbers please let me know if you see anything wrong or if I am expecting too much from my car

60' 1.996
330 5.751
1/8 8.845

IMO the Procede is not installed correctly as you aren't getting any power from it at all. Something definitely isn't right.

I just ran at Z-Max Dragway in Charlotte NC last week and my e90 LCI sedan ran a 13.55 @ 105.11 with a 2.03 60' bone stock in about 85-90 degrees and the DA was about 2500' ASL at the time. I have no doubts this car can run a 13.2x in cooler temps on a track with decent prep stock and IMO I can get a high 12 on DR's in -DA bone stock. As of now my best ET's and traps come from manually shifting hitting the paddle around 6200ish rpms.

I'd say this is making the biggest difference right now. The heat is one thing, but that amount of humidity means that a lot of air is being displaced by moisture, which is going to hurt power output. and being 95 degrees just makes it worse.

This is true, but no way should the car be that slow when its tuned. Looks like his piggyback is either wired wrong or something else is majorly wrong.

if it was wired wrong, he'd be throwing codes all over the place, right? unless it's in bypass mode

What tire pressure? How much initial wheel-spin? How often do you go to the strip?

Before I make a further @ss of myself, I'll have to point out that, 99.95% of the time when someone's "performance" isn't up to their expectations on the track, ANY track (circular, road-course, or drag strip), it's not the equipment's fault.

Anyway, this is a thread on another forum that I think you all should treat like the Bible if you plan on doing any 1/4 mile runs.

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=47538

Read it. Read it again. Read it once more. Then go to the local drag strip and practice what you read over and over and over again until you master it. Then you'll know why you are/are not hitting a certain "time" you expect.

First of all thank you for all the replies!

Installed correctly? I would agree that if it was install incorrectly I would not be able to use the car...not to mention I can access everything via the laptop and adjust maps and firmware. I think I will have to rule out the ProCede installed correctly due to that fact alone.

Heat and Humidity? I saw other posts of people with stock e90's running around 13.5 with the same temps and humidity plus my friend was at the track in his newer GTO and ran a 12.9 with minor mods so I don't think the weather affected my times by a whole half second.

What tire pressure? Started at 41 then moved to 30. I was around 2sec 60' the entire time so I don't think this is important given that I am using all season tires and still getting around a 2sec 60' time which I am very happy with.

How much initial wheel-spin? Launch after brake boost of 2krpm. Minimal spin then she goes

How often do you go to the strip? I went a lot with my old Acura Integra which was a manual car. Stock Integra GSR is suppose to run 15.7sec and I ran 14.9 so I don't think I am that bad of a driver even though I have minimal experiance in Autos

Any other ideas guys? With the new firmware upgrade I have been watching my boost and it looks like I am getting 14.5psi on map #2 and today I tried moving it up to 15.5psi with no codes or errors. Any idea what PSI this motor can handle with just a tune and DCI? Maybe I need more boost then 14.5 to get the better times?

Only trapping 102 with logs showing 14-15psi tells me something is majorly wrong. You should be trapping that with ease even in those temps bone stock. Mine went 103-104 in 100 degrees and the DA was over 2800 a couple weeks ago. Something is definitely amiss and it doesn't take too much work piloting a Steptronic although I found mine likes to be shifted around 6200 for the best trap speeds.

Can you possibly dyno the car to see what kind of power its making?

Have you tried launching in 2nd? It takes practice because you have to ride that fine line of not causing a kickdown into 1st before a certain rpm before going WOT

This will really help if u are running the new maps IMO

Also how many miles are on ur car and has it ever had new sparkplugs? If ur over 25k and running a tune I suggest getting some new ones. Bad plugs wil rob good power and make ur tune worthless
