Arrogant at 40k+ dollars?
I dont know about the rest of the BMW drivers on this forum but I sometimes enjoy walking around with my key fob out, or with my BMW hat on. I think that if you spent the money to own a gorgeous, prestigious car you should flaunt it just alittle sometimes.. what are everyone elses thoughts? I have had many conversations at bars and what not because a girl noticed i drove a bimmer.

if anyone thinks that i was trying to sound like a senseless corvette driving prick sorry, that was not my goal I just think its ironic that when u drive german cars girls seem to flock... And like i said before "a little" show off cant hurt right?

i wouldn't want to meet a girl that talked to my because the type of car i drove.
I like having nice things, but the second im defined by it, thats when things go to far. What kind of friends do you want to be surrounded by? Just a funny thing to ponder: my dad drive a kia sedona every day. He has a laborghini, 2 ferraris, an aston martin, and a bently. personally, i try not to flash my keys. I am one who will buy something if i like it...and don't go after name brands. And thats why i bought a BMW, because i like the looks and performance more than anything else in my price range. I wear the clothes i wear because i like the way they look, i could care less what brand they are. sorry for my rants, but i get angry when we get caught up in a materialistic society that is almost inevitable at this time of age. I spent a year living out of a backpack completely away from society in the mountain ranges of utah. No cell phone, nothing...living 100% off the land. Sure, it was rehab, but it taught me theres a whole lot more to life than everything society introduces. True friendship and family is whats important to me |

i see and yes this is true. the girls that flock to this type of thing are the girls that are my one night stands that i don't have respect for. the ones you want to keep around will be more interested in you rather than whats around you |

you are right about the materialistic world and i dont think that expensive cars and other products will ever leave the lime light, because a lot of people put money before anything else. And as stated before I just thought it was ironic how girls seem to be "more attracted" just by what car people drive. Then again if you met a girl who was driving a ferrari would u not be attracted??

unfortunately perpetuating the BMW myth/lore. Sorry, I actually hide the fact that I drive a BMW b/c of the behavior you're talking about. Being pretentious isn't a personality trait but rather a flaw, IMO.
Would you flaunt a rolex that you bought b/c it was a watch you always wanted or because it was a Rolex? Would you talk about how much money you made/make b/c you think it garners you more respect? As a rule ...Discretion is the better part of valor. |

Maybe you should read into the thread before blowing up, I was simply asking about opinions. Secondly I was making a point of reference to the way girls act when they see cars, Thirdly I dont go walking around with giants signs indicating that i might have a large package because i drive a BMW, Fourthly like stated in this thread i dont think that expensive cars will ever drop their image in peoples mind not becuase of owner behavior but just because of the heritage of the company. This was not meant to be a "hey look at me thread" i just wanted to hear peoples response Merry Xmas |

I didnt blow up, but you said this: " I sometimes enjoy walking around with my key fob out", which I find a bit tacky. Like another guy said, I prefer to keep mine as discreet as possible. Getting looks or comments about my material items is not what I want and find it embarassing.
Merry Christmas to you too! |

Sorry, never done that before since I don't even consider my 335i to be on that type of prestigious level. BMWs are a dime a dozen where I live.

Personally, I'm 22 and feel a little "too" priveleged to be driving such a car, i do my best not to show off to strangers, it can only get you in trouble.

Neither do I flash my keys. And my dad also drives his own car, a Toyota Tundra. No chaufers, no bodyguards, no anything. Although he owns much better cars, he preferably drives them on Sundays, and some of them have months without he even driving them.He manages his own self. Materialistic people must think in something else rather than the power of demonstration, and wonder about the better things in life.

Ever heard the song, "This is your life" by The Dust Brothers? You should. It's from the Fight Club soundtrack... it's kind of funny but rings true... "you are not the car you drive... you are not your bank account" ... "you are not the clothes you wear!" and so on. If you have to flaunt it, at some subconscious level you're showing off, and showing off means you think you're better than someone else. Maybe the OP didn't think this is what he's doing, but put yourself in the shoes of someone who sees you flaunting your stuff (err, not that stuff)... what would you think of that person? Personally I give them a cursory glance, look away and give a "hmph" in disgust
