BMW announces Power Kit for N55

BMW has indicated that there will be a N55 Power Kit released by the end of the year..

also the price for the N54 power kit has been reduced to include the MSD81 (for 03/08 and prior cars with MSD80 DME's) discounted in the price of the kit rather than ordered separately ...

Check your local parts counters for the prices ...

Cheers.!!

Is it known/rumored what the N55's Power Kit will cost and what performance gain can be expected?

not at this time..

but its in the works.. when its finalized i figure they will release some hp/tq figures. i would guess that this is to fill the gap for time being.. but its obvious that the engine has more potential ..

Im waiting for them to offer a kit for the 335is (if they will)

Shiv, do you think that this powerkit could help tuners like you get over the hurdles and make a better tune for the n55?

i'm in no position to argue that fact (hp/tq) but i would like to see the official numbers post-development, plus whatever impact the CARB regulations apply..

but sounds close ..

I'm guessing you probably know that the n55 Power kit was in development well before the n55 was released.

If the N54 power kit is any indication it's basically 1psi more than stock and upgraded cooling for $2500 installed.

due to the lengthly timeline on the N54 software package release, it would only be prudent that next gen DME's would be included during the hardware dev cycle...

BMW's push to get more and more of these kits on cars, lowering the price and suggesting that Power Kits be installed on at least one car in the loaner fleet tells me that they now understand there is a significant market that is untapped ...

but unforunately I only hear rumors.. till some one say its real .. ive learned to wait it out.. if you know what i mean...

Isn't it funny that the power kit will make the N55 in the 335i pretty much match the N54 in the 335is...

With the price of the power kit, you'd have to be crazy to choose 335i + power kit over 335is. 335is still has the DCT and better looks

But it's $5000 more than a 335i with Power Kit. If the N55 Power Kit would have overboost, I would choose it in a second over the 335is.

Now I wonder if this is going to be limited to the N55 335's or all cars with the N55 engine

The $2K gets you more than 20hp, you're also getting additional cooling hardware and retention of your warranty.

If you're out of warranty, sure, there's obviously better options if you're going for power.
