Anyone switch to winters yet?
I bought a set of winter runflats back in October, but it hasn't gotten anywhere near cold and wet at the same time, so I've been putting off doing the swap.
Anyone else in the NoVA/MD area alread switch over? It's gonna be 65 today. Welcome to April! -Mike |

My Dunlop M3s have been on for a month now. Enjoying the 60F degree weather, but just waiting to get to use them in the snow. One thing I did not want was brand new winter tires on the first time it snowed. Now I have nearly 1,000 miles on them, so I guess I could say they're broken in.
Actually, even driving in cold rain, I'm much more comfortable having the winter tires on there than if my summers were still on. Also, this gives me a chance to get my two tire rash-ed 162s fixed before I put them back on.

I used to switch my wheels at Thanksgiving and at Easter. This year I am still using my summer tires in late December because the weather has been so warm.
I have been checking the 10 day forecast and it doesn't look like I will need winter tires for the remainder 2006.

Winter RFT ?
What brand/model of winter run flats did you get?
Where did you get them from? I make weekly trips to my home in central WV and was thinking of doing the swap more for there than here. Thanks, Dean

Last year I put my winter wheels and tires on shortly after Thanksgiving and left them on until just before Easter.
I still haven't put my winters on this year, yet. I've been checking the 10 day forecast at the start of each week and based on what I've been seeing I can probably make it until late January. Either way I will definitely change them out before February. Thankfully, I don't drive my car much during the week. But if it does snow before that time, I can use my wife's Volvo

I put mine on this weekend. I do not expect much more of the warm weather.
I am a HUGE fan of gloabal warming Its all just media BS!!! They do not have an explanation for Mars also warming. It all has to do with the solar cycle. The one is expected to be one of the most significant in a long time. |

Ugh, trying.... to ..... resist.... the ...... urge....
Ergo, as a "govt" meteorologist, I'll hold off for now my comments on global warming until properly "warmed" up at a HH..... but the short version is that I'm not on that train.

I only did it on my Touring because I had a nail in the tire. If that wouldn't have happened I would have never done it.. This weather has been rediculously awesome

I know you don't want to elaborate, but I've heard that most meteorologists are of similar mind...which is interesting. I'd imagine that meteorologists know more about this than politicians and the media...

Actually, from what I can tell, the community is split 50/50 on a good day, with a tilt toward warming. Be more than happy to share my opinion over a beer some day....

Call me crazy, but I'm still flying around with my sport tires. And being slightly east of Frederick, I've been in the snow several times. Even drove up my 16 degree incline driveway 400 feet without even a slip of the rear wheels, albeit very carefully in 2nd gear. This evening I was cruising at 80 mph down I-70 with a Mercedes infrint of me and felt no loss of traction.
Now why am I doing this? Good life insurance aside, I have a Ford Expedition I drive during the bad weather and only drive my 335 in the snow when it starts snowing on the way home. So its not entirely by choice that I have tested the sport RFTs in bad weather. Can I break the sport tires loose in 2nd gear when its very cold, yes. Do I do it only for fun under controlled conditions, also yes. I would be interested in knowing if those with winter tires can still break traction pushing too hard on the trottle (before the DSC takes over). |
