Found an issue with my Cool Carbon Brake Pads

Installed my alarm today. While under the car, I noticed that the left rear inner pad was not right. It seems that the backing plate that is riveted to the pad got all fubar...

Pulled the caliper off. Cleaned everything off and removed the backing plate.

Regreased everything and put it back on, minus the backing plate.

We will see how this holds up.

First image is the pad with the issue.
Second image is a good pad on the right side, rear.
Third image is the pad off the car.

So is the backing plate loose and shifted? Darn that could be really bad.

This is not the backing plate that has shifted but only the anti-noise shim. As stainless steel is used, this shim also provides a heat barrier that is roughly 3X that of a conventional steel shim. The CC shim version is both staked on in 2 places and additionally bonded on. The final bonding takes place with the heat generated during the bedding process. The shim coming loose is not a usual occurrence, but can happen rarely on any manufacturers product.

This is by no means a safety concern but it can be a nuisance.

Each time the brakes are applied, there is always a slight rotational force between the piston and the brake pad/Shim interface. It appears that there may not have been noise coating or caliper grease applied to the piston contact surface (as recommended) which would minimize the rotational forces between the surfaces during the final bonding process.

Please PM me and we can discuss further.

Thanks for the info. I removed the shim, cleaned everything up, re-lubricated the pad and reinstalled. Does not seem to affect operation, nor did I expect it to.

Thanks for the quick update.
