335i Coupe - Gullwing door conversion

Had something funny happen today, I was at target, and a guy stopped me, asking about my car... then proceded to tell me that he saw one "exactly like mine" that had a gullwing door conversion, and that I should do it too...

First of all, this guy probably has no clue that this is a september build car, and nobody has really had it long enough to do something like that, and second, why the heck would anyone want to do that???

Anyone think gullwing doors on a 335i would be "sweet"... I say

If you dont know what gullwing doors are... here is a TT with the mod

Those aren't gullwing doors, those are scissor (better known as Lambo doors) or even Swan doors (as per Aston DB9 and V8 Vantage).

Gullwing

Gullwing doors are a Mercedes thing. Mercedes had them in the 50's? Also the Delorean (sp?) had gullwing doors. They basically go up and down vertically with the hinge dear the center of your room sort of where T-Tops would be.

According to the Science and Technology Dictionary - gull-wing door
(design engineering) A door on an automotive vehicle that is hinged at the top, opens upward, and, in the open position, resembles an airplane gull wing.

As 3Series mentioned this came out ont the Mercedes and Delorean cars. The TT conversion is more commonly referred to as a Lambo conversion.

In any case I agree with you RiXst3r, not a good mod for a 335i unless it's for a car show.

Even the current SLR has lambo doors, not gullwings. Anyway, I think this would look bad. It looks ok on cars where it's from the factory (lambos, astons with the swan doors), but conversions look weird to me. Actually, I am not even a huge fan of it on the SLR.
