If a Dinan ECU flash becomes available for 335i
Could it be a better way to go than an Xede, since it will be warrantied by Dinan? Could it produce a similar performance improvement?

btw - Dinan only just recently came out with a few perf. mods for the E90...exhaust, throttle body, and an intake; no chip. You might be waiting a while for an ECU s/w update for the E92; and even so, what kind of gains will it show and for how much $$?

If it's available, then most likely it'll be warranteed. Could it produce a similar performance? who knows? unless someone close with Dinan can provide some info, otherwise it's all speculation

More $$ for sure...but
I had a bunch of Dinan work for my 99 M3, it was great. I agree the warranty issue would be resolved, but they(Dinan) will most likely sacrifice some performance to gain reliability. I'm not saying Xede is not reliable, I am saying they will probably err on the cautious side since they are risking some expensive repairs. And of course other than hamman, they will be the most expensive. It depends on where you put your emphasis I think. Of course the Xede is something you can resell when you get rid of your car, whereas the $400 I spent on my old M's ECU flash was useless when the car went back, so that makes a pretty good argument for Xede especially since it will be cheaper initially. I could sell the other pieces from my M3, but software is something you're stuck with unless you can find someone willing to swap ECU's and I'm not even sure that's a good idea these days. Despite all of that, my money will go with Dinan, I have a history with them, and the things pretty quick to begin with, if I could pickup maybe 20-30HP, I'd be happy. Again it depends on what's most important to you, there will be people here who will argue one way or the other, but the weight you put on things like performance vs. warranty is the true indicator. Good Luck.

I have no first-hand experience with all this but from what I've read I feel like Dinan won't go all out, as 13307 said above (sacrificing performance for reliability)... if they were to come out with something, based on past history (is there such a thing as future history? :P), do they avoid so much of a power increase that makes customers need to upgrade wheels etc.? I don't think they would... like wheel spin, etc.

IF they do it, then the issue will become the M3. but either way, if they do it, they will provide a warranty, however how much they are gonna back it up is a different story.

so why is everyone saying that DINAN will be more expensive than the xede? even if DINAN doubles the price from their e46 offerings, it will still cost significantly less than a XEDE
So the real question is... is it coming out, and will it suck? |

People, don't forget that we are talking about a FI 335i, which is much more easier to mod than previous BMWs...but the issue with the new M3 still remains

Yep, with a re-flash you are stuck with it. Although I can see a possibilty that a re-flash, if tuned properly can achieve what the Xede does (I'm not an expert, just making basic assumptions). Another advantage to the Xede, along with the fact you can remove it, is that it can hold two seperate fuel maps which can be toggled back and forth with the proper hardware.
Assuming if the re-flash can be close to Xede levels, it will be the best bang for the buck performance option you can get for the 335i. |

I asked him "there are companies out there that are very close to having a working software upgrade for this car and you guys dont even have the car yet?" He could not answer my question. Ive heard rumors that bmw will be developing their own performance program and they are not going out of there way to support dinan anymore. This would give good reason to why dinan lowered ALL there pricing several months ago. |
