very strange problem, engine light came on and car goes very very slow

so i was driving normally before this happend, nothing rough or heavy speading. just normal driving.

i turn my car off, and 1-2 hours later i turn it on. and the engine light comes on. i turn the car on, and off, and its the same.

i check the manual for the error light in the bc, and it says that something is wrong with the engine, and the engine power is reduced. so im 40 km from home, so i start driving, and i notice the cars doesnt do more than 50 km/h

and after a while, not more than 30 km/h, and after 10-20 km/h it doesnt even do 20 km/h, so i had to stop and get my car towed to my stealer.

and today they where suppose to find the problem at the stealer, and they where going to talk to my insurance company (if they will fix it under warranty from the insurance company) but they couldnt. so i have to wait for tomorrow to come.

anyway, does anyone of you recognize this problem? or if anyone have had any problem like this. please let me know. thanks

edit: im from sweden btw, so insurance and stuff isnt the same as in usa

Hmmm sounds like the HPFP to me. This just happened to me on Saturday and they replaced it under my CPO warranty. But, check with your stealership.

Best of luck to you

Not sure a 320 has an HPFP, but my 335i does and I've been driving it in limp mode for a week and a half now. Going in Thursday. It sucks indeed.

It does sound similar to HPFP failure, but that doesn't apply to the 320i. Really could be anything - let us know what the dealer/insurance people say.

My friend once had the problem on his e92 335, it says reduced power or something. He went to BMW, if i remember clearly, it was the valve problem. What the BMW did was cleaned the valve, switch them around (reorganize them in diff places), and now its good. i also remember BMW recommend us to do a clean up of the machine or smthng every 30k miles

Your insurance company surely will pay for this if you have the "complete package" insurance. Sometimes they say the problems exists because you did something. If the car is well serviced they will fold if you tell them to send all correspondence by e-mail, they don't like saying stuff in e-mails that could bite them in the butt later on.

I'm fed up with insurance companies as they, at least sometimes, try to blame the client for a problem that is clearly covered.
Sometimes they are really nice though.

The HPFP is covered under warranty regardless of original warranty/CPO, it's a separate warranty. That is, if your car is out of warranty, and your HPFP goes out (and your car is under 10yrs/120k from in service date), and the problem is indeed HPFP (not injectors or problems that have similar symptoms), it will be covered.
