Msport steering wheel trim problem

I have a 57 reg 320d which is not 3 years old yet, and the coating on the wheel has started coming off.

It's probably the way i hold the steering wheel tbh, but i think the last owner held it in the same way with thumb resting on the right hand corner where the up and down stereo selectors are.

The matt coating is coming away revealing the shiny plastic underneath. is there anything i can do, do i have to buy complete cover or even wheel

I'm suprised as the car has only done 35k don't suppose they fix it for free

This was starting to happen on my 330i before I sold it.

It will be covered under the new car warranty, but not the used or insured warranties as they exclude trim.

Take it back to the dealer, under 3 years old you can expect to get it done under warranty.

A late post - i have also had peel on my M sport steering wheel near to the radio station changing buttons. I decided to take this to the stealers to see if they would change/repair it under warranty since my car is less than 3 years old, and they told me its wear and tear so they will not change it under warranty.
As you can imagine, i am not happy about this and i have asked them to escalate this to someone more senior to decide upon. I will let you know of the outcome.

Its very easy to fit yourself, use the DIY guide on changing the steering wheel and its a pretty quick job.

I had the same wear next to the track up/down buttons on the right side of the wheel. Trim replaced under warranty without any issues

Only just seen this thread!
I had exactly the same issue on mine.
Had in replaced under warranty.
The multi-function buttons on that side of the wheel had packed up also, so they were changed at the same time.
