Suspension dilema
Hey guys,
Just thought I'd throw this out and see what comments/recommendations I get back. Scenario: I can feel that my stock sport shocks are starting to go...not as responsive and tight compared to 20,000k ago. I've currently got 97,000k on my E90 330i with H&R sport springs. I don't really need coilovers nor want them. Should I get a set of Koni yellows and pair them up with my H&R's or try out the BMW Performance suspension? I've heard great things for both setups. I've also been told that the new BMW Performance suspension sits 0.5" lower than the previous version. I can get both the Koni yellows (front & rear) and the performance suspension for around a G-note installed. Your comments/suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Wil

Thanks bro.
How are you getting along with your suspension? Still have that minor rubbing issue on the left rear? Other than that, I think your setup looks SICK!!! Aggressive stance!!! Keep in touch. We gotta hook up again soon.

Unless i get good deal on FK's or may be even KWs, il be going for Konis.
Bro, I still fucking rub. I shaved of that part that i was talking about along with so of the plastic from the bumper. Now im sure it still rubs the fender but i cannot roll it anymore. It got better after shaving it tho. I didnt rub while driving alone yet. Rubbed with 3 ppl and some bags in the trunk.

BMW performance suspension FTW!!! I dont think you can go wrong with oem but I am a bit biased Not sure if any Toronto members are running the koni setup but if you find someone and you want to compare ride height etc. let me know and we can meet up. Performance suspension for that price is worth it.

I've had H&R sports + Koni Yellows since Apr 09 and I am loving the drop, I think the height is perfect for my taste and it matches my rims very nicely. Ride is really tight esp when you cornering hard but keep in mind I had non-sport suspension before this. Down-side, it gets a bit rough sometimes for the combination of H&R Sports+ Koni Yellow + 255/30/19 tires and you can really feel it.
If I had to pick again I'd prolly wanna try BMW Perf. No saying the HR/Koni combo now is not satisfying but OEM is always my preference.

Koni yellows + H&R sport springs combo
Anyone else there that's on Koni yellows and H&R sport springs?
I don't mind the harsh/stiff ride...as a matter of fact, I prefer it. I'm on 275/30/19's and the ride on this setup is not bad...even thinking of going 285/30/19's since I've still got some space in my wheelwells

I think you'll like them a lot based on the drop look and stiffness you're looking for based on the reviews posted on this FORUM if you do some . Plus it's one of the recommended dampers(shocks) & spring paring. Well you know what I have after yesterdays meet (Koni FSD /w Eibach Pro) you most likely find the set-up a bit soft for your taste and the drop on the front not enough

Thanks for the input bro. It's nice to meet other members to see and feel what others are using. I sat in PY's car with the Performance suspension and I was impressed. I followed you that night of the cruise and noticed how balanced and neutral your car was in tight bends.
Should be ordering something next week...hope to have them installed by the next cruise :-) Quote:

I think you will be happy with that setup.
I decided to go with KW V1 and don't have any complaints so far. That cruise was a perfect place for me to test the car, and being the lead car, I was able to take the turns at an increased speed I took that sharp right turn on King road and the car felt planted. The adjustability is a bonus and I plan on changing the height once in a while, but I think you will be fine without it. Remember that being an xi car, my choices were limited but going with either coilovers or springs shouldn't be a problem. The stiffness you are looking for will be better with H&R springs IMO. Glad to see ya on the cruise, your car looks and sounds great. |
