I'm a little unclear. Is this thing supposed to be better than the Rebel XTi? I think it's higher line, but I'm not sure....

As far as build and ease of use, yes it's better then XTi. It has a control dial for easy aperture or shutter switch, also a multi points joystick for selecting AF points. Also it has 9 AF zone vs XTi's 5 or 6. The body is Magnesium clad, more sturdy then ABS plastic on the XTi. The 20D will do also do up to ISO3200 vs ISO1600 on the XTi, not to mention a sperate LCD top panel for easy control readout vs XTi using the main LCD for everything. As for the XTi, it's 10.2 MPs vs 8.2 MPs, this is more of a marketing plot more then actual need for high pixels. Unless you intend to make very large prints you will not see any difference between 8 vs 10 on a 8X10 print. Also, XTi has a bigger screen in the back 2.5" vs 20D's 2.0" Hope that answer most of your questions.

Great camera, I have one and love it. The other difference, I think, is you can shoot in RAW mode on the 20D which isn't supported by the XTi. RAW shoots in TIFF format and gives you TOTAL control over the picture (exposure compensation, color adjustments, white balance adjustments, etc... without degrading the detail) before converting it to JPEG.

Couple this camera with an "L" series lens and you'll be amazed at the detail. I routinely print 13"x19" prints with perfect detail.

Great camera, at a great price! Good luck with the sale.

Edited.
XTI can shoot raw.
XTi has 9-point AF.
XTi has a multipoint joystick for AF zone.

Yep, you're right. I couldn't fine the XTI specs on the Canon site when I posted. Both shoot in RAW format.

XTI has better features but plastic design. Only drawback that XTI has is that it does not have 3200ISO. Not really a biggy.
Build = 20D Features = XTI.

Bump for a great camera.

If you can convince me why I should upgrade my 300D (the original digital rebel), I might be interested. I've actually been looking at the 30D - which goes for ~$1050 (body only) at Dell. Right now, I keep telling myself that the money is better spent on glass. I get great results from the 6MP 300D and I've enlarged up to 20x30 with "acceptable" results.

The biggest reason I can think of is lower noise. The CMOS sensor in the 20D is SOOO much quieter than the 300D. This alone will allow you to print larger with fewer artifacts. The 20D is also faster in continuous mode due to the larger buffer (I can easily get 4 to 4.5 fps at full resolution... practically as long as I hold down the trigger (it writes fast to the card also)!

I don't think the 30D is that much of an improvement over the 20D. It doesn't really give you that much in real world shooting. The 20D will be a big step up from the 300D, though.
