If you could extend your warranty to 6yr 160000km?
Would you buy it? I saw that option was available in the US, basically gives you the CPO warranty without the inspection...
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte.../Warranty.aspx So I wrote to BMW Germany to ask why this option is not available in Canada; hello, Being a Canadian customer, I noticed that it is possible to buy an "Extended warranty" in USA, it is called "Original Owner Protection Program". This extends the warranty two more years or 100kMiles. Basically the same coverage you give(BMW CANADA) when a certified used car is sold through a Canadian dealership. How come this option is not available to Canadian customers? This is a big disadvantage if I want to resell my car, because potential buyers are not able to get equivalent coverage compared to cars offered by dealers. This is an other unfair situation for Canadians compared to American buyers. Here are some others: Lower prices on all models Full maintenance program Better discounts for Euro delivery. More configurable options And on..... I am a loyal customer, but I really hope you start making your way of doing business more uniform throughout North America; I am really thinking of shopping other brands for my next car. Best regards, xxxx xxxxxx, 2008 335i owner. P.S. I tried sending this mail to BMW Canada, but it seems they cannot read more than 500 characters.... //I got this answer from BMW Germany: Thank you for your e-mail. We have forwarded your request to BMW Canada. You will be contacted shortly. Kind Regards, BMW Group Customer Service Team //The next day the Canadian answer came: Thank you for contacting BMW Canada. We appreciate your inquiry and your loyalty to the BMW brand. You are correct, it is possible to buy an extended warranty in the United States for a vehicle in the U.S. Unfortunately, we don't offer that same program in Canada, but it is often discussed and may be added at some point in the future. If you have any further questions or concerns, we would be happy to provide assistance. Please respond directly to this email or contact us at 1-800-567-2691. Sincerely, BMW Canada Dan Miller Customer Interaction Specialist If this is something that would interest some people, write to BMW Canada!

I don't mean to shoot down your thread or to hijack it. Your letter is admirable in so many ways. You deserve for writing it.
Do you know the sales no's for BMWs the past year? The reason I ask is if sales numbers continue to go up or if BMW Canada continues to meat their percentages, there is absolutely no incentive for them to make things better for us. In my opinion, the only thing that would work is for everyone to stop buying BMWs from BMW Canada. If their sales numbers continue to go down, then there is incentive to offer more. Again please don't take my comments the wrong way - just my 2 cents worth. Regards, Quote:

I don't know why they say 2 years or 100K miles. The 100K miles means absolutely nothing to 90% of BMW owners (guessing, but I bet I'm close). How many people drive 25K+ miles per year?

I'm not really surprised, I've noticed a number of manufacturers offer better and longer warranties in the U.S. compared to what is offered here. I've read a few times that they justify it by the climate/conditions that cars go through in Canada, but the same could be said for most of the northern U.S. states.

The 2ys / 100kmiles is added to the base 4yr 50kmiles, it brings it to a total of 6yr 100k from the day the car was sold.

I, for one, will be e-mailing BMW Canada about this.
BMW Canada basically piggy-backs on BMWNA (USA). It is really rare for us to get anything that the US doesn't. BMW NA doesn't bring in wagons, we don't get wagons, etc. No reason we can't piggy back on BMWNA for this too. |

Right - and how close to 100K miles do you think you'll be after 6 years? I'll probably be right at about 60K miles so the 100K is meaningless. It's just a 2 year extension...

As we know, Bmw's are not the most reliable cars, and used buyers are always afraid of having to spend a ton of money on repairs after warranty is expired.

I think its safe to say that an average driver - using their car as a DD - would put on at least 15k miles a year, so that extra warranty goes a long way. Its better to have it and not need it. |
