Hey Everyone,
Ive been reading up and I see some say just get the Rear sway as its the one making the difference in handling. But I see others who say to get both, that even that 1mm difference in the front is very important as well.

Also, did you have any problems such as instability, excessive oversteer, etc. from only replacing the Rear Sway?

i got both too... but the fronts arent as substantially thicker as the rears.

From what I hear, the rear sways will make the biggest difference.

I have done this to all my cars previous to the e90. No negatives for me. I may do this if I have the money.

I have the rear only for my other car. and that's 13mm bigger than oem. feels good. but that is fwd car. I don't have rwd car...

my friends are installing sways on their G. they told me to get a set too but i figure x-drive doesnt need it ? dont even know if they sell it for x-drive.

RWD Cars benefit from Front Bars and FWD/AWD Cars benefit from Rear Bars. Depending on thickness of the bars over OEM and the delta between the two bars (Front & Rear) if you change nothing on the car, will determine if the car under/overstears or remains neutral.

I plan on working on my own adjustable bar when I get the car. The S2000 community had plenty of good options for adjustable sways. I have to see how this car is setup and determine if spherical adjustable endlinks will work.

Increasing the thickness of the rear bad on a RWD car is just going to make the car overstear and slide very quickly.

I would like to see an E90 with just the H&R rear sway bar.

After having just the front one put in, the car plowed horribly when braking hard and turning quickly. Then after the rear one was installed, the car felt balanced again. The only negative comment I have about the stiffer front bar is that it makes going over speed bumps diagonally more bone jarring.

how bout with sport suspension instead of your h&r springs?

What do you mean by sport suspension? The OEM ZSP one or Dinan's sport suspension or other?

mmm well "The only negative comment I have about the stiffer front bar is that it makes going over speed bumps diagonally more bone jarring." i'm guessing thats partially because your lowered on h&r springs? say if i were to go over speed bumps just straight (slowly of course), do you think it would be that "thumpy" (not sure how to describe it).

I've had rear only and I've had full sets on other cars. Here's the issues I've had.

With a full adjustable set you get more ability to fine tune. Instead of the 2 or 3 settings in the rear you usually also get 2 settings up front. Stiffer front bar means that you can get quicker/sharper turn-in at the expensive of having to balance out understeer. Which is easy enough to do with the rear bar.

If you go rear bar only, you're only adjusting the handling of the rear end. Which means you're tuning how much oversteer you want out of the car only. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that. I actually preferred that ... and this is why.

Anybody who says stiffer sways don't impact ride quality hasn't had much experience with them, or their roads are nice and smooth. The statement is true *if* both wheels hit the bump at the same time. If only one wheel is hitting a bump, it's going to be a lot harsher.

I've also yet to have an aftermarket adjustable bar that didn't make contact with some part of the suspension under some circumstance. Usually full droop. I even had one that when set to full stiff would hit the drive shaft ... just needed to quick 1/8" ground off the end but still it was annoying to have to pull the bar. And in the case of the e90 that would mean pulling the whole rear subframe.

Also keep in mind that the urethane bushings will start to squeek after a year or so requiring you to, again, pull the bar and relube them. Which .... yet again ... in the case of the e90 is extremely prohibitive. Unless somebody comes up with a bushing carrier with a lube nipple on it.

oh yeah another question mr frogman, do u plan to ever relubricate your brushings? i know h&r states that you dont have to... and that they should never squeak...

Well, I got the rear installed yesterday because thats all they had in stock, and I plan on getting the front one later on, I think I havent driven it much but so far I have no compaints and tons of positives. The car steers sharper and the body remains much flatter. Im a bit concerned that if I ad the front, it will start to plow more in the front than it does now.

I drove my car for awhile on H&R Sport springs without the sway bars. The ride was more firm, but still relatively smooth, especially over bumps. When I added the front bar in, going over speed bumps diagonally was much more bumpy. I'm very in tune with this issue, since this was one annoying problem my Ford Explorer had. However, this minor sacrifice is one I am willing to accept with the BMW since I prefer its handling now with both the springs and sway bars.
