Anyone get the ipod upgrade in Chicago?

Looking for a dealer in Chicago that can do the ipod upgrade at a relatively reasonable price... anyone around here have that done? If so, how much were you charged...?

Thx,

kevkaz

395 installed would be an incredible deal. The retail price on the part alone is close to $320. I think circle BMW sells it for $260 and I don't think you're going to get it cheaper anywhere else. With labor in the $100-130 range, I can't imagine they're charging just 1 hour. Most shops will bill 2 or more hours. I'd double check that one and get it in writing if possible.

$600 seems to be the going rate, though you can talk your way into a bit off of that price if the dealer is friendly.

I had it installed on 12/26 and its awesome. I was out of town for the last 2 weeks so I haven't had a whole lot of time with it so I can't post a full review yet, but I think this was actually worth it! Sound quality is excellent and response time is so much better than MP3 CDs (07 335i w/iDrive and Logic 7)

Was wondering if anyone could give me a description of the dealer kit, like where the plug is and what the functionality is with idrive. A pic or two of the nav screen would also be nice. I guess I'm gonna have to get the kit since the factory won't install them until March builds.

The plug is on a cable whip in the glove box. I was a little hesitant about that at first, but it's a good place to leave the ipod and forget about it, and you can lock it up if you want.

I don't have iDrive so I can't help you there, but how it works on the normal radio is:

- shows up as CD changer "CDC" source
- the ipod menu items show up as the disks
disk 1: playlists
disk 2: artists
disk 3: albums
disk 4: genres
disk 5: podcasts
disk 6: shuffle all songs

(note that this is quite a bit better than the first-gen adapter, where disks 1-6 were just playlists BMW1-BMW6)

once to pick a "disk" everything's all ipod-ey; you can see all the text, descend into albums and pick songs, etc. the ipod pauses when you turn off the radio or take a phone call, it picks up where you left off when re-starting the car, and you can navigate with the steering wheel buttons or the radio controls.

my "bug" list is fairly brief:
- "shuffle" sucks the same way as with mp3 CD's, which I didn't really expect.
- when you pick a "disk" (eg albums) it starts playing the first track of the first item instead of just going to the next menu (eg list of albums) (you have to hit the up-arrow to get the actual list)

There was one other thing that bugged me right off the bat, but now I can't remember it so it must not be that big a deal
