Oil Change & Oil Tested Questions
First off I have 9900 miles and my 06 330i, was put in service on June 29th.
I'd like to have the oil changed, just because and have the oil tested. I'm thinking of trying out the new service dept at Fairfax BMW (purchased car there) but most of the time it is too horrible to get into and out of. If anyone has thoughts on my questions, I'd like to read them. 1) Does the dealer normally have a lab they send them to or do I have to find a lab and send out? 2) If the dealer does it what is reasonable to pay? 3) If I do it is there much saving for the hassel of doing it? Any constructive comment(s) are appreciated. Thanks, Dean

look here.... http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...t=oil+analysis 1.-2.) maybe call this folks up and have the dealership get the oil samples for you to send it over to these folks is my thinking! 3.) I do my own oil DIY, my savings is about $50-60, but I have a lift access, so it makes a difference. let us know whats up!

I should add that I see the oil analysis as interesting but not all that useful until you have done two or three of them in a row, so you can see if there is any sort of unusual trend. With a first oil change, you'll see traces metal in there and think, "That's normal, because it's the first oil change." So it's not really useful by itself. But then what about the second oil change? The third? It'd be more interesting to see them, and compare them to each other and to the first change. Anyway, just some thoughts. Blackstone Labs seems pretty popular for doing the analysis, and the price certainly is good.

I able to get in the military base at ft. belvoir. unfortunately its only for cars registered on Post and folks with military ID.
BMWCCA has membership days at Sterling BMW, w/ lift access, check NCC site every now n then, and I'll do the same. Hows the new Doctor to be ?

Fairfax BMW Price
12-13-06, 10:57am ET
I just called Fairfax BMW (where purchased) for an extra/early oil change and filter only. Service returned my call and said they could do in their "quick service" lane. Cost "about $250.00. WoW, all I wanted was to drain the oil, change the filter & put new oil in. Do you think they mis-understood me that I did not want the entire service. I'll back and let you all know. Dean

There's no way it's $250 unless they charge double for the "quick service" or something. They must have misunderstood.

They Mis-Understood
I call again and had to leave a msg and they called back & said it would be about $100.00 for just oil & filter. The $250.00 is for the regular complete oil service and resetting the indicator.
Taking it in now. Later, Dean

What the heck is the difference between oil + filter change versus the regular "complete" oil change?

Good Question.....
I do not know. But I'll try to find out.
My guess would be maybe: 1) lube 2) re-set the indicator 3) service the other fluids About all i could think of... Dean

after talking with Alxis she explained how FFX change her oil and when she got home her garage was full of oil, they had to tow her car back in to reservice the oil and clean the under carriage. hmmm, I know its more convenient, but at least take it to Jeff Villa.

Non-Scheduled Oil Change
I have 9880 miles on my 06 330i purchased on June 29, 2006. I own my 330i and did not want to wait until 16,000 for the first change. If I was leasing I probably would not have cared.
I had my oil changed yesterday at Fairfax BMW. They call it a "Non-Scheduled" oil change or "Simple Oil Change." I cost $99.99. They drained the oil, replaced the filter & replaced the oil. Indicator light was not reset. I'll have to say the new building is like a convention center. 65 bays, parts and "life style" accessories with plenty of room fro all. They have a "quick lane" for things like oil changes, tires & batteries. I would have to say that the flow of the people process is a little off but I'm sure that will come in time,, they just moved into this facility over the weekend of Dec. 8,9,10. The service took about just under an hour as I was #2 when I pulled into the lane. the "quick lane" runs all day except 2:00 - 3:00pm for lunch. I did not have the problem that a friend of mine had, waking up to oil all over her driveway the next day & needing to hauled back in. I would do it again. Advisor Chris or Jeff, I recommend. Oh ye, I decided not to do the oil lab stuff. Dean

Dean - thanks for the review. Good to hear you had a positive experience with the new service facility at Fairfax.
My very brief review of Sterling's facility is here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...715#post571715 Actually, I just looked at it and it's not really a review. So here's a summary - I pulled up at 7:30am on a Thursday for the oil change (previously scheduled the appt, not a "drive up"). You get out in a covered circular driveway, they take your car, tell you to go see Ronny(?), your SA, and you go inside. The SAs are all very busy inside, even at 7:30am, and my guy is talking to someone else. He's done in just a minute so I talk with him, he asks a few questions like address, phone number, etc., asks if I want the car washed (I politely decline as I am in a hurry to get to work and also prefer to wash myself). He says okay, it'll run around $125 and I'll get you when they're done. Okay. I go over to the coffee area, with TVs, and they have a coffee/espresso machine. Everything is very clean and nice and they have muffins that look pretty good, so I take one and sit down with a newspaper. I get up and look around at the little "BMW lifestyle" shop and wish they had E90 Matchbox cars for my son, but alas they just have other models. Oh well. I check out the M coupe and the 328i E92 in the showroom. The E92 looks gorgeous, BTW. Then next thing I know, Ronny is back, they've pulled my car around and they're done. It has been about 20 minutes. The bill is $120. The service record reflects an oil and filter change, and a note not to reset the service interval. Ronny reminds me they want all 5s so if there is anything wrong to let them know. He also says he won't be listed as my SA on the records because he's leaving the SA business and going into management. Another SA is listed, and Ronny says this other guy is great and he gives me the other guy's card. I pay, hop in, and am on my way. I stop by the Wegmans parking lot a half mile away and check to make sure there is no oil leak and everything looks clean inside the engine bay. Trust, but verify. Looks good. I'm off to work. Car doesn't feel any different, really, as it has always felt great.
