I don't think the E92 looks like a 7 series, but there is a hint of 7 series styling in the taillights. If anything, the front of the E92 has a bit of E90 (3 series) combined with E60 (5 series).

You can tell the tails are inspired by the 7er. That's it though.

The sedan could be confused with a 5 series maybe, but the E92 with a 7 series? That's nutty.

Some people just don't know cars, we can't do anything about that.

Take it as a complement. Maybe they think it's a $80G car.

I reckon that these people know enough about BMW's to know it's not a 6-series and because it's newer they at it being a 7.

The E92 has design elements from the 7, so it's not a bad guess if you don't follow BMW closely. It certainly doesn't look like the E90.
