528i Ordering Experience

After careful consideration (ok, I should really say after me bouncing around wanting one of everything and changing my mind every few days), my extremely patient wife and I ordered a 528i.

528i Sedan
Black Sapphire
Black Dakota Leather
Anthracite Trim
Sport and Premium Packages
...

Two weeks later I received a VIN number with the status that the car is now in production. Cool as the planned US SOP was June

update: It appears that the BMW online tracker has a delay of up to 48 hours... Regardless, this is cool to see visual progress even though it's just a web page

To help quell the anticipation, there is a good virtual tour of the Dingolfing plant here:
http://www.bmw-plant-dingolfing.com/.../en/index.html

My car is at the "paint shop" with an estimated seven-day production run.

fyi: To get a more accurate vehicle production status, call the BMWUSA automated number (800-831-1117) and have your VIN or production number ready

Pretty funny, we drive the same car currently and ordered the same car.

My 528i is getting a quality check and is then going to port

Thanks all… it is indeed very exciting to get into an F10. After test driving a 2010 535 and witnessing the oh-so-smooth ride, I just had to upgrade from a 3.

It was tricky finding the right set of features beyond color (the packages did not exactly meet my needs) but finally settled on the following:

Sport Package (wanted the better seats)
Premium Package (leather)
Navigation system (I’m directionally challenged)
Heated front seats (cold wimp)
Park Distance Control (I just think it’s cool)
Power rear sunshades (so my doggies can ride without overheating)
Xenon headlights with adaptive (for safety)

Now allegedly the car should be complete but the blasted status is still out of date

Vehicle production is now complete.

Never really thought about it, but a seven-day production run is quite reasonable.

If I did my research correctly, Morning Cedar is the next scheduled ship to depart Bremerhaven on the 6th. I wonder if my car will make it...

BMW should have separated the Ventilated Seats as a stand alone option. Here in Hawaii we will NEVER require heated seats.
