help with rock chip and scratches !!
i have some big rock chips and some visible scratches .... i mistakenly sanded it down with water and applied paint on it then let it set and put the clear coat. but what i noticed was that it had shown a dull mark around the area i was working on when sanding i tried using turtle wax product but the dullness from the sanding only comes back to show.. is there a way i can fix this or is this something out of my hands. i can provide pictures if its not clear in how im explaining it
thanks. |

Have a pro take a look at it.
You can't fix wet sanding marks with anything you can apply by hand. You need to use body shop quality products that will require machine application. |

sounds like a spot repair is in order...
take it to a pro and have him compound it, then polish it, then polish it again, then seal it up! at least that is what I would do! |

I learnt my lesson the hard way too... and screwed up royally just this morning. But it can be fixed, with the right tool and product (which I didn't have).
I used the Meguiar's Gold Class 3-step system I had from before - Paint Cleaner, Polish, and Carnauba wax. And since I didn't have an electric polisher, I ended up doing the polishing and waxing by hand and it took about 6 tries before all the sanding marks disappeared... Sorry - didn't take any photos - my hands were covered in wax and I was too lazy to go wash them... Take a look at the following links if you haven't done so already: http://autopia.org/forum/click-brag/...-56k-owie.html http://www.clublexus.com/forums/auto...-up-paint.html http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=41351 Good luck

You wet sanded and it's dull? What grit did you use? Wet sanding, with the right grit, will polish a clear coat. Grit has to be upwards of 3000.

Sanding is the removal of the clearcoat to level the paint in order to remove paint imperfections. IT WILL leave the paint hazy and dull, it will remove clear paint (clearcoat), and it will require compounding and polishing to restore the shine and luster to the paint. here we have the starting condition: sanding scratches from a poor repair and quick buffing here we have it sanded down with 2000 then 3000: here it is polished out with 105 and then 205, but without any protection on it: As you can see, there is no way that sanding can POLISH clearcoat. |
