How to extract a smell from the steering wheel?
I bought a used mtech perforated leather steering wheel and it must've been owned by a middle eastern person because it smells very strong, like spices. cleaned it with Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer and used Meguiar's Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner but that didn't work so I trapped the wheel in a plastic bag with a citrus deodorizer for a day but now it smells like both and it's nauseating when i'm driving lol.
Any ideas? |

id recommend taking it out, cleaning with a deep cleaning leather cleaner like this:

it's been 2 days since i attempted to clean it and the smell isn't as noticeable. actually the citrus smell from the deodorizer is more dominant when i'm driving but if i bring my nose closer and intentionally smell the wheel it'll have that ethnic scent. not a big problem anymore, i'll just hope my own sweat will take over!

Put a bowl of baking soda in the front and back seat at night.

I just took a damp cloth with soap and rubbed the shit out of my steering wheel. You wouldn't believe how much dirt came off. My performance wheel looks new and smells great. Then just treat it with leather cleaner and you should be good for a while. I always try and clean my wheel once a week.

Try taking it back off and dipping it in a solution of vinegar and baking soda for about 5 minutes. Sure, it might smell like vinegar for a couple of days, but keep it aired out before re-installation.
