One More Question on Convenient Access
Sorry for another thread on a subject that has been well discussed. I have read them all and have not found an answer to my question. Hence, one more question:
My new E90 has Convenient Access but the manual doesn't explain it's use thoroughly. It says to shut my engine off, just press the Start-Stop switch. If I leave the vehicle after doing this, the lights in the instrument cluster and the radio stays on. How long do they stay on before they turn off.....or WILL they eventually turn off. The salesman recommended after turning the engine off, to take my foot off the brake and press the button again. This turns everything off. Is this the accepted procedure? The manual does not mention pressing the button twice. |

You can press once to shut the engine down, then again to shut the electronics. Alternately, you could press and hold the button briefly and it will shutdown everything.

Thanks for that information...I didn't realize that since my car was in the garage and I didn't lock it. That makes sense. |

I always press twice. Not the PITA it sounds like , because I often like to have the radio continue playing until I've gathered stuff up and am about to open the door.
Or sometimes, I just push it once, then turn it off by locking the doors.

About ^
I can only imagine someone distracted about something enough to forget to turn the engine off (since the key is already in his pocket anyways, it's not like he'd be like oh, I need to take the key out) walk away, and someone sees a nice cozy BMW with the engine running, gets in and takes off. Once the thief parks the car he realizes there isn't a key... I dunno, I just felt like sharing

My salesman told me that it happened to one of his customers. Lexus behaves the same way. I went out to dinner with a friend and her then-brand-new LS430. When we came out of the restaurant, two hours later, the car was sitting happily on the main street, quietly idling its not-so-little V8. I think it was even unlocked.
