My car won't pass inspection!! Here is the reason...
at 9,000 miles of grandma-style driving, my dealer tells me i need three (3) new tires!!! what the f*ck??? how long do those f*cking RFT tires last?!?!? not even 10,000 miles??? can this be?? now they're making me put on some generic Continental tires at $180 each + plus some other fees.
is this normal???

yes very normal i need 4x new tyres i got my friend who works at a dealership to pass my car its on 18k miles now and the rears are 3/4 slick and fronts 1/4, runflat tyres use alot softercompoud than normal tyres to try and keep the vibration down and road comfort up, due to the solid sidewalls the tred is extreemaly soft (makes abasloot amazing drag trye in the dry heat) your lucky that your not having to forkout over $300 per corner 235/40 R18 Y fronts and 265/35 R18 Y rears =/ (need to be speed rated at 170+ mph =/)

9000 miles is not normal wear. (Notice the post following yours cites 18.000 miles... - which makes sense)
Also, it is odd that 3 need replacement, not 4. I would not let this go without escalation.

Heheheh depends what you consider a "grandma" driving...
And you may have some alignment issues - most likely

And you may have some alignment issues - most likely this would cause uneven wear not 3 striped tyres lol, alignment will cause high unvene wear, you would still pass on that |

so what do you guys recommend to for me to do?
JSpira, how should i escalate this? I think it's completely ridiculous! is there a partial warranty on the tires themselves? something like premature wear?

i recomend get new runflats, just go for a diffrent compound, you will not be able to claim on "premiture" wear as it is not, ive seen runflatsa go in 1000 miles with hard driving on a track, and on roads in 6, mine were gone by 10-11k but ive still done another 7k on them w/o worries new ones have been orderd and are on the way

Something must be wrong. We have gotten 30K miles out of both sets of our RFTs on the Z4s.... No track days, no drifting, just regular driving.... You might want to make sure the tires are balanced and the wheels are in allignment as well. If these are off, premature tire wear will occur. We had to have both of our Z4s tire balanced and wheels alligned within the first 6K miles of driving. Dont assume that they are perfectly balanced and the wheels are alligned from the factory. Trust me on this one....

In the glovebox, in the owners manuel binder, there should be a phamplet on the tires with a 1-800 number. Call it and they should be able to give you a location near your residence that you can bring your car to have the tires evaluated. Even a worse case scenerio, you should 70-80% reimbursement towards the purchase of new ones.
Best of Luck.

I've got 15,000 on mine and the tires are hardly worn at all. I drive very conservatively though. What is your definition of "grandma" driving?

To the OP, ever checked the tire pressures? What tire pressures do you run?

Check out the posts under wheels/tires for runflat issues. If they have feathered or cupped, then you need to take it up with your dealer or Bridgestone. Many of us who have had the tires feathered/cupped and the tires wore prematurely have had the tires replaced either by the dealer or Bridgestone with some adjustments depending on mileage.
8K miles is definitely not a lot a miles for a tire. All four of my tires showed the feathering issue around 18K miles. |

What do you mean they're "making" you put those Continental tires on at that price? If you really do need new tires, take the car to a tire place. Why would you let a dealership rape you on tires (especially crappy ones)? Why would anyone even go to their dealer to get their tires replaced? |

Most dealers wouldn't know a good tire if it grew teeth, bit them on the ass and screamed, Hi! I'm a good tire! |

There should be a tread line between the treads, every foot or so. If the face of the tire meets this notch line, it usually means your going to see the steel belted part of the tire soon.
