Change the speedometer color from orange to white m5/m6 style...

Hi people,
I was sitting in my friend's brand new M5 yesterday and loved the color of the speedometer.
It was a very bright white and i think it looks much nicer then the orange that comes standard in the 335 coupe...
So basically I am wondering if it is possible or if anyone has tried to change the color of their speedometer/rpm gagues to that M color.
Thankx

there was a guy who indeed turn his dash to blue on here. Though if I remember correctly, it was a veryyy time consuming and costly ordeal, more than its worth tbh. Though its just a bulb, I remember it being a lot bigger of a hassle than it looks like.

Thankx guys...
To be honest i don't want to change it to some blue or purple chesy color...
I just thought that the one in the M's looks great and it would be nice to have it in the e92 as well...
I would definitely not invest too much $$ in this.
If it's just a bulb then shouldn't it be fairly easy to do?

So the orange in the car is minimal...
I guess besides the odometer the only other orange i'll see is in the climate control.

I know what you mean, that it would be minimal--but the small amount of difference would still drive me CRAZY!!! Even if the white looked much better. I wonder if there is a way to change all of the orange light--then this would be worth doing.

Why don't you guys like the Orange/Red?

I LOVE it....

It's much easier on the eyes and has been tested/used in aircraft for this very reason for night time ops. (Not counting the night vision Green, etc.)

Very 80's early 90's i find...
It's about time they changed it...
With all the different companies offering bright whites to blue's and red's i think there are ssome stunning colors out there and just find that the orange is outdated and doesn't look as nice...

the orange is what pilots use, its for ease on the eye at night... try having white in direct sunlight...i know some of us drive around with our lights on during the day to show off that we bought a car with xenons haha.

But what is really interesting is the reason for this. Red light is not perceived as a light source by the eye. What do I mean? If you only have red light, your pupils will be dilated as if there is little/no light. The second you start adding other spectrums, your eyes start to react and your pupils close.

During one of the many wars in our history (maybe Vietnam, maybe WWII, can't remember) they found that pilots going out to fly night missions were more likely to crash right after takeoff. The briefing rooms had white lights. They switched to red lighting in the briefing room, and the pilots eyes were already adjusted to teh dark when they got out to their planes.

That said, I love the gauges in our 325i, but I also love the blue glow in my 06 Jetta. I HATE bright white gauges and usually end up turning them down a little too dark for my own good to help my eyes adjust. My eyes are pretty light sensitive @ night though.

there is a certain hue of red/orange that causes the least amount of fatigue to the eye, hence why bmw has been using it for generations. the person's eye isn't distracted as much from the guages to the road.
same reason why 8000k hid's is worse for eye fatigue then 4100k is.

Beside, BMW now uses hundreds of small surface-mount LEDs to light our dashes now, they are nearly impossible to change, unless you are a soldering genius.

While I agree about the amber lighting for night vision purposes, it is sort of lost at BMW now, with our bright i-drive screens and M cars that have white lighting...
