Sounds like that's about right. There might have been some other undisclosed mods.

At least a 400lbs advantage, some 30hp less than your car stock but most probably more torque can surprise anybody... if the GTI driver is better than you then it is a done deal.

And that's assuming that it was in fact a Stage 2, it could have been a Stage 3.

Garage List
with a tune you will win. unless they have a turbo upgrade then they will jump ahead for a few seconds. my buddy with a fully modded k04/meth gti jumps ahead from a roll but i catch up pretty quick.

Also was the GTI manual or DSG? If DSG the driver could probably out shift you also. I use to have a 2007 GTI and modded that thing is fast!

Yes, it is possible for the 335 to lose.

I'm surprised you were surprised, knowing his mods.

A simple stage 2 GTI according to APR is 276 hp and 314 tq, plus this guy has more mods. I have a stage 1 2010 GTI and even that alone is pretty darn quick, not as quick as a stock 335 but it will surprise you if you aren't paying attention.

I was a bit faster than my friends GLI when I was stock. Not too too much. He ate my rear end and got straight up walked hard with just a jb+ on my car.

Thats the major key.. Those cars are easily tuned and light as all sin.... Anything is possible with those. Probably one of the easiest/best gain cars to have.

Make the mods equal...

JB3 or Vishnu
3" Downpipes (AR Desing Catless)
Straight pipe muffler delete

and see who wins...

In the grand scheme of things the 335i will be faster after dumping money into it. Obviously. But the MKV/MKVI GTI's are peppy little cars. My GTI does 220whp/275wtq (dyno'd it), with TBE, chip, intake and that's it for go-fast mods. With a HPFP, revised tune, and a few other supporting mods it can do a little bit more. with the k04 turbo upgrade the cars will see roughly 300whp. anything more than that and you're getting into a serious build. but for stage 2, GTI's are fun little cars with some oomph. In better (driver?) conditions the 335i should have gotten the GTI.
