The Switches and Early Adopters - Those that went from 06 330i to 07 335i

In the past couple of months I've been reading posts from a bunch of you that had a 2006 330i and switched over a 2007 335i and I was wondering a few things. First off, why did you decide to ditch your X month old car and jump into the new 335i with such a heavy loss from depreciation? Second, how long did you have your 330i before getting the 335i? And finally, was it 100% worth the time and money that you threw down the drain? I'm curious because I want to see if I can bring myself/justify it in some way to buy a 335i. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot and I want to put my urge to ditch my 6 month old 330i for a 335i to rest (hopefully). All things considered I will be getting one of the new M3s in the next 12 to 14 months so if I got a 335i now that would be two major hits to my wallet within a two-year period---I also know I'd feel bad giving up my 330i because it's as though I have a relationship with my car and I'd feel bad giving it away just as I would feel bad about giving my dog away. Albiet though, tons of fun with three different cars.

I know that I have not switched, but if you are getting an M3... there is no reason to take the hit. The 330 is still a fantastic car and will be always. I say keep it until the ///M

I'm really happy with my E90 325i and I don't understand why people willing to take a big hit to trade in their 330i for 335i.

Keeping it.

I was a little bummed w/ the whole 330>>>>335 "thing", but the fact is, the 330 is a great car and, as someone stated, the 255 hp is more than both my M3s!
I'd rather keep the 330, and take the money that I'm NOT losing by NOT trading and put it towards my next car- I really want an S2000.
I'm sure 2007 is the last year, so I'd really like to pay down the 330 and maybe get an S at the end if next year.
No way that's happening if I get a 335 now.
I really like the 330- there's a point in your life when having everything be the "newest and bestest" becomes a little less important.
Sure, I'd have waited and gotten the 335... duh!.... but I didn't and I have the 330- and it ain't no Taurus, that's for sure.
Unless you are made of money- it's nearly impossible to ALWAYS have the best and fastest car- updates, improvements and changes during a car's lifecycle make that a near impossibility.

Same situation here. It came down to this. i really did not want to pay full sticker for a non M car and I did not want to buy first run either. So I figured I could get a rippin deal on a 330i and then wait and see what happens. I figured they will roll out the 2door first followed by the 4. This will give me plenty of time to see what everything is all about, such as price etc. At that time if everything was good to go I would switch out. In the mean time I ordered some nice wheels (difference of that and the cost of a new 335i), which were really ordered for my next car. This way I will not have to plop down even more cash at the time the new one arrives. If the new M is completely out of my budget at the time, I will do a euro delivery of a 335i and it will be a wash, nothing lost and only gain. I have a really awesome sales manager that I know and she is hands down the best there is so I am not sweating to much.

FWIW, I think the 335 is a special case.

I applaud those who can resist, but the power and tunability of this car along with the benchmark 3 series attributes made me trade in a higher rated and more powerful car than a 330i...

Now something better is always just down the road, but I just write off the cost of changing cars every 18 mos-2 years as part of my hobby cost, much as some throw thousands at skiing or boating or the country club or exotic vacations or racing or whatever.

I also use the cost of luxuries as extra motivation to keep expanding my business and earn more. I believe people in general are too focused on the cost side of life and not enough on the earnings side! Want new wheels? Not until I've earned that next contract. New Car, not until I've put away X amount to retirement savings, etc...

+1

If you really want to spend money, mod it up? But if you're set on the M3, hold out for that. The 330i is still great

Save! Driving a 335 is like a 330 98% of the time. Same stereo, same handling, etc.

I traded at 14 months. I don't think I took as big a hit as some might. I was in a lease; so I sold the car to CarMax for 4K less than the purchase quote, didn't put anything down on the 335i lease. I increased my allowable miles to 15K a year from 12K, which would have bit me later had I simply turned in the car. I also reduced the term of the new lease from 4 years to 2. I only pay $140 more per month than my 300i payment, and to me it was worth $4,000 to get out of my 12K mile per year lease, which I would have been in for another three years and would have been way over miles.

So the decision to switch to the 335i just made sense and wasn't that extreme in my situation.

Keep the 330, save the $ to upgrade/mod the M3.
