Inaccurate Temperature Readings

Im from so cal so the temp here is pretty consistent. But when i start my car in the morning on a hot day the temp reading outside my car will be very low (which is typical, considering the car has been sitting all night). However, the temperate then seems to stay low even after a 20 mintue drive to school. Then for the rest of the day the temperature seems to be reading about 5-10 degrees farenheit below what the actual outside temp is. Does anyone else have the same problem? or is there anyway i can reset the temperature sensor?

PS where is the sensor located?

I have no problems withthe teprature gauge. The temprature gauge comes to an accurate reading within one mile of driving.
