What are the pads on the interior of the hood for?

Hi folks! I was cleaning my engine bay today and I noticed the pads screwed on the inside of the hood. Do you guys know what they are for? Like heat reduction or something??

At least that what it was designed to do.

Sorry, but I'm not wrong! Click on the link and you will see for yourself. Now if you have proof of what you say is true then that is good but I have been around a while and know this part to be true and can back it up. It is important to get the facts and not make assumptions that people are wrong in general. I'm not saying what you say is not true but atleast back it up with proof so that other members know. Now that being said, look at part number 1 Sound insulating engine hood. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=51&fg=70

I'm looking at a AW M3 but the 335 is tempting. The dealer still won't budge on the price that much. They still want $58K

Its so they can justify adding $500 to the price of the vehicle for an part that cost 50 cents.

I wouldn't get it unless they are willing to make a good deal. It's a hard car to get a deal on because of the "M-car" cliental, dealers know that if you won't pay that price then someone else will. I got lucky on mine, if I didn't get such a good deal I'd be driving a 335i right now.

Sorry if this sounds stupid but if we take it off shouldn't we be able to hear more engine sound + less front end weight??

Spaking from experience, you WILL want to keep it there. During an engine fire, it will drop on the flaming engine and put the fire out quickly.

Unfortunately, my experience with the plastic blanket was the body shop skimped on cost and decided not to put one in after the hood had to be replaced. We weren't notified of this and when the engine caught on fire (due an oil leak caused by the said body shop), the entire front end of the car was engulfed in flame. And this is not something you want to experience.
