With the oil and filter special @ Maranello, TOTAL materials cost inclusive of taxes is $65. Euro Castrol plus OEM filter.

so if an indy shop charges $100 for an oil change, rip off?

oem filter > all other filters?

Rip off is all relative. Can you do it yourself. If so, what's your time worth to you.

I assume it's $100 + tax, so $113. Spread is about $50. Sounds petty reasonable to me if you can get it for $100 + tax...

Can't go wrong with OEM filter.

spent 88 dollars on an oil change recently, put in that new castrol edge. Apparently lasts for 22,000km or one year while still changing the filter periodically. :S

Make sure the indy shop uses an OEM fiter and oil. Most full synthetics don't meet the standard required by BMW. Stealerships only charge 20-30 minutes labour on an oil change, so the savings going elsewhere is often $20 range.

As for Castrol Edge.....even Castrol's own website recommends using the special Castrol only sold at the dealer and NOT Castrol Edge.

I got the oil special from Mike at Maranello, then went to speedstar for the change. They charge 35+tax for it, so I paid $105 in total for my last change, hope this helps!
