I don't think we get these in the US.

<rant>

Because if we did, I would see morons driving BMWs with rear foglights on all the time blinding everyone at night like the morons who drive Audis and Volvos around with the rear foglights on. This is likely a Euro only feature, because Europeans seem somehow to understand that foglights are for fog, not for posing.

BMW NA deactivated it but a simple Euro light switch retrofit brings it back...

It's generally acceptable to have the front foglights on for good looks. Modern front foglights on most cars are not really foglights anymore and are not blinding to other drivers. To be effective in fog they need to be amber and when is the last time you have seen proper amber foglights on a car.

You are correct that Europeans do not use rear foglights unless driving in dense fog and if you turn them(or it) on in normal conditions then you will certainly get flashed by cars behind you (and could even get a ticket).

My 05 Mini Cooper has a rear fog light that is independently operated from the front lights. It is pretty bright BTW.

I was driving in dense fog a few weeks ago (same day I took the photo in my sig) and certainly could have used a rear foglight that day. IMO, it's a shame they don't trust us with the rear fog here in the US.

Our 1999 Volvo XC70 also has rear fog lights. I've only used it once in 7 years!

socalm3 got a ticket for driving with these on. I put my on when someone is riding my tail. I roll up the rear sunshade, and turn on my fogs.
